Based on the results, to fully petrify you need to make eye contact with a victim's two normal eyes. Ah. I can't believe I didn't pick up on that (despite knowing how eye-contact was necessary). I was too hung up on that eye having some sort of anti-petrifying property.

The other thing that popped up was why our dragon slayers were locked down. Laxus had nothing to do with it, so we can assume it wasn't under his orders do to their likelihood of defeating him.

These episodes are pretty good, and we didn't even have to follow through with last episode's Mystogan cliffhanger.

I wonder who he's up against. So far we've got:

Lucy/Loke vs Bisco
Mira vs Freed (preview)
Laxus vs Natsu/Gajeel

It doesn't leave much room unless:

1) Mystogan picks up the scraps after one of the above battles, or
2) Mystogan loses one of the above battles (Laxus), and Natsu picks up the scraps.

Either way wouldn't be cool.
(edit: though I'm sure they'll make it cool regardless.., like if Natsu beats Laxus too late, and Mystogan takes care of the Thunder Palace or something)

I hope Gajeel doesn't get taken out easily during the fight leaving Natsu to pull another power hax out of his ass and single-handedly take out another superior opponent.. It gets tiring. The guy needs some legitimate power-up or focus more with member combo. I can't even remember the ice guy's name anymore.

This is a really stock shounen formula series so you shouldn't expect too much from it.

The ice maker guy's name is Gray. His name is included in every other line by Juvia, so I wouldn't forget it...

This episode was boloni. Only saving grace was Gajeel's true intent and Mystogan in the preview for the next episode. Hopefully Mystogan's not hyped up to get his ass kicked in his debut match-up which appears to be the case.

At least Freed got owned in every possibly way. Something about a broken man crying just makes me all gigity (not in a sexual way). Okay, I don't really know what "gigity" means.

The fact nobody dies makes all the sacrifices and pains endured somewhat meaningless. Like Juvia sacrificing herself and Freed wondering how she could make such a choice - yet she's only unconscious for now. Of course it made sense in many of the earlier fights the forced combatants didn't want to finish the other, and in that sense this whole arc can't be overly much blamed, but some scenes just didn't work because of it.
