Somehow I didn't find this flashback especially touching or emotional but I guess it was needed - not for this arc alone but also to explain why Erza is such a combination of a ruthless asskicker and a caring big sister.
In reality I'm of course only looking forward to any scenes with Juvia.
I only just noticed that the "button" on Juvia's cape now has the Fairy Tail emblem on it - wonder how long that's been there for.
Like Kraco said, the flashback didn't tug any heartstrings, and I found that to be the case for the other two as well (Lucy and Gray's) - but they do enough to get a sense of reason behind all this action and build a bit of depth in our characters.
It appears that Jellal may share his senses with his twin brother. From memory, I remember Erza and his twin talking in the Council building one time in a not-so-friendly way. Does that simply mean they know each other as well, or can the twins momentarily control each other on rare occasions?
Simon seems like a good guy. Almost too good - like, the ones that usually die.

The episode finally launched into the main fights of the arc, after the less meaningful fights against Erza's former comrades. This should provide good stuff. However, the new OP finally showed one of the core elements of why I hold Juvia my favorite female of the cast. I don't actually care much for her current looks with the curls, and while I liked her already also earlier when reading the manga due to her personality and antics, the new looks the OP now reveals are what sealed it for me.
What's with the obsession? Her character isn't all that interesting is it?
I suppose objectively speaking her character is not amazingly interesting - but that goes for every character in the show. There's nothing truly innovative in Fairy Tail and that applies especially to the story. Let's just say I'm happy there's something that interests me in this series.
The fight between Natsu and the uber-owl was pretty sweet, but the 'metal' battlemusic they used was fucking awesome.

Yeah, it was pretty well done.
The "battle damage" on Natsu was drawn much better than in any previous scenes to memory.
I can't wait to see Mirajaine get her powers back, something that the OP hinted at.
Laxus being a bad guy doesn't get much emotion out of me other than feeling happy they'll have an excuse to beat the shit out of him.

The demon armour was pretty sweet. Now that she's down a few sets, let's see her in that maid armour the OP keeps teasing us with.
It's pretty funny how Juvia mistakes Lucy as her rival in love, while the person who comes closest to that would be Erza. And no one beats Erza.
Regarding Jellal/Sieg - are they one and the same or something? Sieg was the one behind defrosting that sealed beast from Gray's arc, he can't be up to any good. I thought those two simply shared a telepathic link, but it all hints that they most likely share the same mind.

I'm also curious about just how powerful Natsu will get when his "true power" or whatever is released..

But really, it's about time our main cast starts showing some new moves. So far all their wins have been old moves supercharged with friendship and such.
Erza's new armour counts, so I'm talking more about Natsu and Gray (especially Gray.)
