I just got done with the game. Took many tries for me to get interested enough to finish the game.
I didn't really enjoy this game as much as i did the older FF games. The linearity didn't bother me since i found it to be less tedious, but i do have to admit i miss having towns and doing some exploration. Half the fun of playing an RPG is exploring the world that the creator crafted for you and maybe see some interesting dialog from NPC. I feel like the main problem is that for most of the game you are essentially alone. It feel like the game lacks character that makes it stand out.
The 6 main characters are likable enough, but i feel like the villains were really lacking. I suppose the idea is to have the main characters be outcast and have the players feel like they are fighting "the world". That however just makes me less interested in the story as the game progresses, because it feels like a lot of aimless wandering. Ironic considering that for most of the game, you are set on one path.
My main complaint is how damn grindy this game is. It just feel like the creators decided to throw in gran pulse half way through the game as a big "grind here" sign. It became incredibly tedious to beat even the regular enemies after that point even if you didn't skip any battles. I was annoyed with this in FF12 too but that game was more MMO style so it's a bit expected.
On the other hand, i really like the fast pace battle system that makes you think on your feet. It's responsible for some really intense situations and i would like to see it come back in future games.
