I don't think there's ANY way that could be the case. I thought Nagato was the only one who has ever had it. Ever. Or their could have been like 6 before him. It's one of those.
Seriously, though. Doesn't the manga blatently state that there has been a long line of people with it? And if you were being sarcastic, I'm a stupid idiot and I'm sorry.

I interpreted that as there being 6 previous Pains, and the next one in line inherits all their skills. Did I read this incorrectly?

I believe you did read it incorrectly. I interpreted it as the six bodies that Naruto defeated are the six pains, with the puppetmaster, Nagato, being the 7th pain.

I definitely see how that can be the case. I read into it badly, I guess. It's settled, then: me=idiot. But the wording of "He who controls the Rinnegan..." does make it seem like only one person could have the technique and it switches owners.

Anyway you must be a fool if you think that 5 kage's and their bodyguards would succumb to Sasuke's genjutsu.

The only way that could plausibly work if all ( thats like what, 15 people at least?) would stand against a wall looking at sasuke and he somehow puts them all under genjutsu at the same time, and then a second later kills all of them.

I don't expect Sasuke to win in a 5 on 1 against Kage's. i was refering to the fact if you go into a situation where you know there is a less then 1% chance of winning, then you come up with a home run strategy, and this would be Sasuke's bet. I was referring to something someone else said.

However having said that, I don't expect that Kishi would make it end for Sasuke at this point. I instead expect to see some subterfuge, in essence, Sasuke going after the hokage only, which is his intent in the meeting but rather what I see happening is him making some sort of deal in exchange for something with Danzou in the end. And we may get to learn something new of Danzou or Madara instead.

But right now, all we know is that Sasuke is only looking to kill Danzou.

Sure they'll fight. Kishimoto wouldn't have wasted the time updating character models for those two if he didn't intend for them to fight. Their new outfits might look like a minor wardrobe change to us, but for the illustrator it meant many hours of work. Character models require revision after revision, after revision. It's a tedious, timer-consuming job.

If Madara was able to stay alive for this long and then show up as Tobi, then why would he say that he was supposed use it on him instead of the village? He wasn't dead this whole time. He's been living as Tobi in the shadows?
