    Best Naruto Arc

Well I decided to listen to Sadness and Sorrow, and it got me thinking as to what the best Naruto arc has been so far in the anime. In my opinion the best one is the first one, the Zabuza and Haku arc. I don't think any other has quite come as close to matching it in terms of story line quality, pace, music quality etc.

    Any differences of opinion?

The Chuunin Exam arc is still my favorite. I especially like the Naruto vs Gaara fight. Oro vs the Third was pretty good also.

Aaahh the exam fights, Naruto, Gaara, Lee...the awesomeness that once was...

Nowadays Naruto is merely a shadow of its former self...if even that.

Zabuza x Haku. Everything kind of went downhill from there.

That's not the Chuunin Exam arc, that's the Konoha Crush arc.

The Chuunin exam arc ends after the Lee vs. Gaara fight(technically, after Chouji's fight)

Which is, incidentally, my favorite arc.

Konoha Crush? Never heard of, or seen such a term. Anyway, the time from which the exams started until the Third's death was my favorite.

Downhill as in it never went uphill (much). It was still great during the Chuunin Arc, and some of the Konoha "Invasion"(?) Arc, but some of Naruto's fight with Gaara was a bit redundant I think.

It wasn't an immediate drop, nor was the slop steep to begin with, but IMO, Zabuza's arc was still the best. The peak. Hence the "hill".

I must admit, I enjoyed Lee vs Gaara a lot. A lot.

I have to say it's my favorite arc too... I shed tears back then when Zabuza died together with Haku side by side.. but the sound 4 arc (naruto vs sasuke) was very good too imho and I liked the fatty-fight in the beginning of that arc very much and so was the chuunin exam + the following fights which resulted in the third's death

shippudden had a lot of potential with Sasori and of course Kabuto(!!)+Hidan.
however the atomic-bomb-rasengan ruined it for me.. such a lame ending for the best characters in the show so far in my opinion

mmm, my favorite arcs.. Yes, the Zabuza one was amazing and definitely what got me hooked. It's probably my favorite, but I also really like the "chasing after sasuke" arc, where Shikamaru leads the team after the sound 4(/5). that whole thing was so awesome when I watched it (and rewatched it).

definitely the top two highlights of the show, for me anyways.

"Konoha Invasion" is probably the more official title.

The Chuunin Exams arc runs through the first two exams of the Chuunin Exam, and the preliminary battles for the 3rd exam inside the tower.

The Konoha Invasion arc contains Naruto's month training with Jiraiya, the 3rd exam of the Chuunin exams in the stadium, and the invasion of Konoha.

I really liked the Sasuke Chase arc. Some great fights were shown there. I especially like the Neji part.

Zabuza arc is still great of course, but I hated the mushy part about Inari and such.

yeah the Neji is awesome! Definitely the coolest fight. I loved his fight the most, and then Shikamaru's fight second. It's only second because he couldn't finish it.. If he had finished her off, then he'd easily be the coolest fight i think.

in Shikamaru's preliminary fight, I didn't think anything of him, and then even in his match against the Sand girl, in the final chuunin exam, I wasn't really that impressed. like, he was cool, but not a top character. But then when he lead the chasing Sasuke team, and then watching his fight against the Sound girl, he definitely become one of my top favorite characters of the show. only to be reestablished as such during the previous story arc.

In my opinion Shikamaru's fight was made better by that. He was not any ultimate fighting man, and thus it added a sense of realism he couldn't finish the sound girl off, due to lack of power, not lack of plans. Plus I think it was a really nice scene where Temari saved him, establishing those two as a pair (as much as Naruto can have any couples in the first place).

    Edit: Correct pronoun.

The problem with the Shikamaru fight was the long tug of war between him and Tayuya. Because the Kimi-Lee/Gaara fight was shown during Shika's fight.

It made it less vibrant and dynamic

yeah, thinking about it I agree with you completely Kraco, and I'd have to say I agree with Asspirine too.. I think that the multi episode stand still of back and fourth shadow choking was what made me lose interest in it...

But I didn't like the fact that Temari got rid of Tayuya so "easily". Just using two techniques or something and she was finished. You can blame it on her tiredness, but it showed a huge power difference between her and Shikamaru.

    It showed a rock-paper-scissors-system

shika had problems against her because she uses range and shika's styles are better in close range

Temari is range-fighter herself and Tayuya's natural enemy because of her wind-styles
