I think that might just be a vicious cycle. As things currently are, Japanese gaming has been highly focused on consoles, with the PC market left pretty much for dating sims only. Given that the consumers haven't already been in a habit of keeping their PCs in good shape for the more demanding westers shooters/rpgs, the risks in putting out a hardware-demanding, good PC game and hope that consumers would take it up would be too great.

One thing that left me wondering about the article was how it said many Western games get a classification similar to adult games (forbidden from under 18 years, I reckon) and thus major retailers don't carry them. Getting that classication in itself is perfectly natural, since having a look at your game shelf reveals games like Witcher, Dragon Age, Fallout, etc are all for adults only. However, for shops not to sell them (or hypothetical similar Japanese games, if nobody buys Western games) because of that is incredibly strange when you also say adults are used to gaming to pass time during long commutes. So, despite gaming a lot, adults in Japan are restricted to games meant for kids? Strange place indeed.
It's not that X-rated games aren't available, it's that major retailers don't have them. Pretty much you have the general gaming stores that don't want anything to do with eroge (at least in their main levels), and then you have some basement store that's dedicated to eroge. (Having seen it personally, they really are dedicated - and only to eroge).

So that kind of leaves our violence-rated games with no takers. I doubt digital content delivery like Steam has much footing there, if at all.

You rarely see porn games anywhere over here. The only places I've personally witnessed have been small stores selling only movies and games (and maybe erotic shops, but I'm not in a habit of visiting those), and naturally some web stores. However, such games still share the exact same classification with violent games, which is 18 in Europe, and there's no self-respecting business that wouldn't sell the common FPS or RPG games only meant for adults. So, to make the point clear, games meant for adults only is a different thing than adult games.

Despite saying that, philosophically I do recognize that brutally killing people in games should actually be worse than having sex in games. Whether avoiding them both is the correct answer, is another question, though.

Makes sense though, if you think about it. All media is for USE only. If you'd actually own the content it'd mean you'd be able to legally duplicate copies and make a profit of them, i.e. you'd own copy rights.

That guy was an idiot. While I'm opposed to the sort of system that can summarily deprive you of all your purchases (which is why I only buy hard copies of games), it's still childish to afterwards go and pester them about it. Nobody likes dickheads that waste people's time asking questions they already know the answers to. Sounds like a lousy loser and nothing else.

Software licenses are an exceedingly common thing in the business. Stereotypically you buy a copy of a game (or an audio CD or a movie), but you buy a license for a number of installations of a non-game software. Usually one if you are a homeuser, but sometimes more, like the three-packs of MS Office they sell these days. It doesn't then matter how you acquired the binary of the software as long as you have enough licenses. If they switched to licenses with the fully digital game distribution, it's nothing to be surprised about.

If there's something to be surprised about, it's that there are people who would use it yet still risk pirating knowing they could lose everything. But then again, foolishness is the most rapidly replenishing renewable natural resource.

Didn't know that? It's listed in every EULA for any kind of software since the inception of EULA's. Stop clicking next like a dumbass and read one of them sometime, unless you want to agree to apple coming to your house and stitching your mouth to a butthole.
EULA's have hardly any legal power here though, and I think it's the same for the rest of Europe.

I got this link sent to me by my instructors for a team-oriented design class:

    http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

I always thought personality tests were pretty dull and axiomatic, but this one certainly opened my eyes. The added benefit of doing these tests also give insight on how much synergy one may have with the other type dynamics.

I got INTJ/mastermind who are independently-driven, super-rational, extremely introverted and creative.

I've done this test in past and got INTJ too. But Internet tests are not very accurate, compared to test with psychologist.
Yet some time ago i've took this test again and got INTP, and now i have INTJ again.

Already did a similar test, maybe from a suggestion here, INTP is the result and I think I remember it was that too at the time.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

I did this MBTI survey as part of a workshop some time back, and it wasn't as easy as just filling up a form. But the answers I have here are pretty much similar to the one which I done previously.

Five years ago I did this test, I got:

ESTJ (67%) - Management, Physician, Law, Education
ISTJ (33%) - Engineering, Physician, Law, Military Training

Today I got ISTP - Law, Computer Programming, Technology Education

Interestingly all my career paths that I had considered were in the bunch and have been rather consistent.

I'm rather skeptical of these internet results though, as someone above has mentioned, since a lot of my responses contradicted each other. My strength of preference for Sensing (vs Intuitive) and Perceiving (vs Judging) were only 1% and 11% respectively. Back in the past, all parameters were really clear-cut except for Extrovert/Introvert.

A lot of the E/I questions had me thinking too, since I find myself asking whether they mean "DO I have trouble speaking to people etc", or "do I HAVE TROUBLE speaking to people". I can be as open and as chatty as anybody in a customer service role, but it doesn't necessarily mean I like their company or that I really feel like talking to them even though I CAN. At the same time though, I can't have an office job where I talk to nobody.

One thing that's noticeably changed between the years is that "how tidy is your desk" has changed from Very Tidy to Untidy. Current Situation vs Future Developments stumped me up since that depends both on the situation, and whether or not I give a shit.

edit: according to En's first "description" link, none of my previous ISTJ or ESTJ strike a hammer, but this part on ISTP is spot on:

"Analyze what makes things work and readily get through large amounts of data to isolate the core of practical problems. Interested in cause and effect, organize facts using logical principles, value efficiency."

edit2: found my favourite description site that I used years ago. Click the personalities at the top for a nice full-page description.

I refuse to call this a funny video. It's simply amazing.

It's funny that this gay dude has such a problem with guys trying to save bitches and hoes. I guess he wants a big strong man to save him instead.

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

The first minute looks like the guy is sitting on a toilet while recording himself. Also what's with all the unnecessary frame-cuts after every goddamn sentence? It's like he just doesn't know how to speak to a camera and has to edit every thing he says.

Same type! It is kind of funny, since one of my friends and I are both ENTP, but we seem to disagree on things a lot. I tend to know a lot about those sorts of evaluations, since that is kind of what my specialty was in school.

Also I like that the one random white woman is in their group (token sighting!)
