That's correct. What I'm predicting is that they'll start getting on good terms. He'll see her as a Wakaba-replacement of sorts.

It's later on down the track that he'll realise that nobody can replace Wakaba, and that replacing her in his heart is not needed. He merely needs to open up another spot next to her for a new love. At that point, he should realise the person to fill that spot is not the new girl at the Soba shop, but Aoba.

Moving on's the end result of all this, not from the mere arrival of this new character.
