Anyone know why ep 98 is only 4:3?
Because the TV version wasn't really 16:9. It was cropped and re-framed. The Blu-ray version is uncropped 4:3.
It was also announced that the DVD releases would contain the same (cropped and re-framed) 16:9 aspect ratio as the broadcast airing, yet the Blu-ray releases would contain a high-definition 4:3, full-frame aspect ratio. Both the DVD and Blu-ray releases would contain a Linear PCM 2.0 stereo audio track.
I'm fine with that. The series was made in 4:3, so just HD-ify it like that. If they want 16:9, then redo the whole series, and don't mess with the originals.
It's the same with the HD releases of Funimation. HD is nice and all, but if it's cropped to save money, don't do it.
I'm still looking for the R1 DVDs of the originals, those were the best release to date, IMO.
Edit:A bit offtopic (not about DB Kai) Looking around for releases, I found that Funi is releasing a HD remastered version of DBZ on Blu-ray. The original series remastered in 4:3 HD format, with triple audio.
If they release it with the first dub they did (not the edited one for the 16:9 HD release, they butchered super Buu's voice etc.) then I'm game!

[Hatsuyuki] Dragon Ball OVA - Episode of Bardock - 720p: Torrent | DDL
Based on the three chapter Episode of Bardock manga.
So....what? Bardock is the first super sayajin?
Just ignore it...
I refuse to consider this shit cannon.
So if this is canon...
Freeza had a brother, or relative, named Chilled. Chilled discovered the Saiyajins, most importantly the existence of Super Saiyajins. On his death bed, he told his crew to warn his family of the Saiyajins, which caused Freeza to hunt them down and (ultimately) exterminate them. This culminated in sending Bardock back in time, where he became a Super Saiyajin and defeated Chilled, repeating the cycle.
So how does the initial timeline go? In every scenario, in order to get to the point where Bardock "dies" at Freeza's hands, Freeza has to be aware of, and afraid of, the Saiyajins because of what he heard from Chilled. But this only happened because Bardock was sent back in time by Freeza's energy explosion, causing Chilled to have his fateful clash. There has to be that first timeline somewhere that created the loop. But how?
My brain hurts from thinking about this....
It's dangerous to go alone. Take Nep.
What Arch said. It's a causality loop. It's Fry being his own grandpa.
It does basically explain why there are all these legends of the Super Saiyan, when there hadn't really been any before Goku. Although that had already been explained by Broli's existence, even though that's not canon.
It's a really shitty explanation though, because there's absolutely NO explanation as to how Bardock traveled back in time in the first place.
Speaking of canon, and Baby, shouldn't the people on this planet be the Tuffles?
They are, that is the official design for the Tuffles. It can also be seen on Dragon Ball Online for example.
The time travel power must be related to the future-sight power he had been given by the people he conquered in the original Bardock OVA.
I clicked on the manga link and found this:
This should make clear that it's not canon, just a spinoff, like SS3 Trunks.Description
From Wikia:
Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock is a three chapter manga created by Ooishi Naho and based on the video game Dragon Ball Heroes. It features a spin-off scenario taking place after the events of the TV special Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku, in which Bardock survives after his confrontation against Frieza and turns into a Super Saiyan.
Why are you being so retarded about this Ender? For one thing, the manga is over. And these works are obviously all fanservice, the only thing that could be constructed as cannon ever since the series ended ( since it has content not approved, but actually created by Akira ) is DragonBall Online.
I dont think any of you should even bother arguing about canon period. So little thought has gone into making this series (not denouncing it, Im just saying), its a little ridiculous for fans to bicker about these things when the creator doesnt even remember half as much about his series as they do.
