Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei

The first episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei was released.

    AniDB
    ANN

This is a five episode OVA sequel to Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai and the original series. There's not too much info at this point about it. A lot of rumors, but nothing worth posting here. There should be a few fans of the two series around the forums.

The first episode is a comedy relief episode, pretty funny and a good way to get back into the characters. Some of the relationships hinted at again in case you forgot, and exaggerated versions of the personalities the characters displayed in the first two series.

As an OVA, the animation is phenomenal compared to the original two series.

First episode by Tomodachi, good subs, no complaints.

    EDIT:

Aside from the generally vapid humor and Takano's tiger print swimsuit, I loved the Ciel parody with Chie-Sensei. Fumiko Orikasa of course voices both characters, and she used T-squares in the exact same pose.

Very fun first OVA episode. I really didn't notice how well built Takano was, but I guess her body is always shadowed by her dark motive so I couldn't notice much of it. Other than that, wacky humor at its best.

[WinD] Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei - 02 [DVD]
    [ASR_Kurou] Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei - 03 (h264 720x480)

    [two episodes of content below]

For how much fun the first episode was, the series took a very dark turn very abruptly. While the second episode is confusing, the third reveals how twisted Higurashi Rei will be.

I'm still holding out on us seeing Takano somehow and somewhere, but for everything else that has changed, she might be "Miyoko Tanashi" (her birth name) in this world. On the other hand, I suppose Rika is the villain in this world. I also doubt her conflict with Satoko is anywhere close to being over. It also isn't very clear whether the "reincarnation of Oyashiro-sama" that Rika's mother possesses in this world is the same thing that Rika's "Queen Carrier" is in her original world.

The Rika of this world lived an incredibly depressing life, where everyone hates her due to her own haughty attitude. It's very unnerving as a viewer to see Mion, Satoshi and Reina talk so harshly to Rika, so one can only imagine how awkward, confused, and disturbed Rika must feel. Satoko being a bully rather than her best friend can only be that much worse.

    EDIT:

Fun fact from episode 1. Type-Moon (creators of Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night) gave 07th Expansion (the creators of Higurashi) explicit permission to make Chie-Sensei a parody of Ciel from Tsukihime throughout the Higurashi series, not just the few instances where she is more obvious.

I wonder if the world that Rika's in is what you call a "perfect world," where nothing went wrong and everything's in order. Having to find this fragment by killing other people seems bad, but if it returns Rika back, then I'll desist. Aside from that, getting decapitated by a truck is not a good sight.

Awesome yangire action. I'm just surprised a person can get away with scratches after being pummeled by a chair.

EDIT: changed the term used to be more accurate (yandere -> yangire)

End of the arc. I guess the next one is a humor episode.

All a dream, huh? I guess that's one way to bully Rika. Glad to know that the decapitation wasn't real.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, mainly because I was a big Keichii x Rena fan.

I'm glad you enjoyed it as well, but you're not gaining any points from this fervent Keichii x Mion fan.

This Keichii x Everyone else fan also thought this last episode was a step in the right direction

So is this it or is there still material to be used for further anime adaptations?

PS: I love them all, but if i HAD to choose one for the pairing...

Is there even any competition? You're welcome Ryll

Not sure which thread to put this into, so mods can move this as they please.

There is a new OVA coming out, Higurashi no Naku Kori ni Kira [AniDB] in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the franchise.

First one is slated for late July. Even if it is just another fun side story (guessing from the promo image). I'm all for more Rika, Mion, Shion, and Rena.

I hope we get some adult Rika in there. Even just a glimpse would do.

Apparently it will be shameless fanservice. I'm ok with that, the series ended where it should.

Warning: It seems you need 4.0GHz to decode Derp Karaokes.. just press S to turn off the subs during it.

Miyo won hands down. Rena a close-ish second. Thankyou, Soul Brothers.

As long as you're not saying that's a bad thing, that's fine.

Well I'm a seasoned anime warrior by this point... takes more than this to make me uncomfortable

Besides, seeing as they've already run out of canon material it's not like there's anything else to look forward to
