Somehow i find it hard to believe it's the pc's problem, especially since i can easily play any other HD movie without the slightest lag

Same here, my laptop never had any problems with HD until the 1080p releases started coming.

eh, its not as good as my desktop, but i don't know what kind of specs the vid demands.

afaik 1080p just means it has a resolution of 1920×1080. different 1080p vids can have different frame rates and bitrates, which make all the difference.

so you may be able to play some and not others.

It's probably a software issue and not hardware, I have VLC and play it at 1080p just fine. Were talking ~30-35% CPU Usage average with a Core 2 Duo E8400.
