Yeah! Even tho the enemies were mainly waves (and bigass sea monster), nice amount of action and humour, sweet ep!

also, was the dude talking to Kuma and Garp in the beginning voiced by the same VA as Jiraiya?

    Fantastic episode.

We finally got to see... *her*

    Damn... they skipped her name...

And I liked the fact they decided to FINALLY re-draw scenes instead of using side banners

Fun fact. They saw two other phenomenon before arriving to the Red Line... a circular rainbow, candy rain and a magic tanuki... both were used on the filler.

Ahh man, I was hoping they'd get at least a little farther than that, but ah well.
Also, wtf is up with the version Penner posted? It's got QA notes all over it.

The mermaid was pretty hot. Too hot for Sanji, for sure.

I have also been thinking the top of the mast is a very strange place for Zoro to keep his weights and train. All that mass up there should already affect the balance of the ship, not to mention it will have a bad effect on the structural integrity of the mast itself.

Do we actually know why Kuma didn't bring them in? I know he made a deal with Zoro about taking all the injury from Luffy, but why would he do that at all? He had orders. There must be a reason we'll find out later otherwise they wouldn't have brought it up again.

Anyway, I'm glad this arc is getting started. Exciting times for the anime-only people.

Maybe it's just as simple as him feeling sorry for them 'cause they were already injured iunno, or maybe he's upto something with Garp. Funny how alot of the female characters looks exactly like Nami but with different hair or something. It's typical of One Piece to introduce crazy characters and that's why I love it, a freekin' mermaid and a star fish guy!

Going by the preview, the new bad guy is masked and apparently wants revenge on the Straw Hats aaaaand this is supposed to be where the Shark people come from? Would be pretty sweet if Arlong makes a comeback.

Oh I don't read the manga but thank you RyougaZell for posting about that, always interested in the differences between this and the manga.

the next episode has hachi in the title.... there was a shot in the preview that had a pink person in a stripey jumper tied up... i think its pretty obvious who is wanting revenge on the straw hats...

also arlong was said to be a guy in the merman sichibukais crew (dont think they have said his name?) so it could be him instead of the guys above who i said. I dont know how it can possibly be a sichibukai however as clearly kuma and many legions of the navy would be immediatley despatched to merman isle when the strawhats were sighted going after there THIRD warlord...

Im surprised this ark was started so soon. Thought they would do a longer filler arc for sure, so I went ahead and started reading the manga. As always looking forward to the crazyness of one piece, theres no better manga.

Oh and, holy crap its chambers, haven't seen you in ages.

I'm glad the animators are making a point of prominently showing "that" thing that became (kind of) important in the current manga arc. I won't spoil, and it's mostly trivia anyway, but Oda must have told the animators about it. Neato.

I'll laugh and laugh when it becomes important and everybody's like "Huh, where did that come from", just like us manga readers did. (I am not trying to be a prophet (or tease much) -- it is all in good fun.)

Sorry, I guess this post is mostly contentless unless you read the manga and know what I am talking about. So, here are my opinions about this episode:

    (1) cute mermaid.
    (2) it's about time we see more stormy weather on the Grand Line, though currents that actively follow the ship are kind of gimmicky. The real scariness are currents that act unpredictably.
    (3) Garp is always awesome, but they made Sengoku look like a weak tool in this episode.
    (4) Is Mariejoa a sky island? I don't remember it looking like one during the Arabasta arc, but they might have Vearth on top of a cumuloregalis cloud (appropriate for the seat of world power)

    (5) I think Zoro came to appreciate Luffy a lot more after the Kuma incident. Zoro is the only straw hat who realizes just how much pain Luffy goes through to protect his nakama. Of course, Zoro gladly returned the favor (which is pretty bad ass, too). Kuma was probably like "holy shit that is a big bubble of pain."

Enough of this kind of thing, thanks. As an anime-only watcher for OP in particular I don't want to know that something will be important later, I'd rather find out for myself. Just because you don't tell us exactly what you mean doesn't make it any better.

I don't mind you saying that when it actually has become important and we all know it, and I'm not saying I even know what you're talking about now, but please don't.
