Looking at Selvaria's powers in this episode (and the previous one), it's no wonder if the Darcsens in the past tried and succeeded in developing some weapons of mass destruction... Anybody would if you had an enemy like that.

Furthermore, a wise nation would have sheltered Darcsens later instead of persecuting them and tried to find out their secrets. Kind of like in our world the nazis persecuted jews and thus aided their enemy's, the Americans', science programs, the Manhattan project included.

It would have been a nice twist if somebody could have presented alternative weaponry able to match valkyria powers. Although seeing how the valkyrias really did anything only so late in the series, it would have been neither necessary nor really smooth plot development to introduce extra stuff.

Good lord. I've never seen such stubbornness in one episode before, but the biggest douchebag, that General Daemon, just needs to die in this upcoming battle, preferrably by either Selvaria or Alicia, or both.

I honestly don't get what is going on in Alicia's head. Why reject Welkin's help? I thought Welkin handled the situation perfectly, only to be pushed away numerous times.

While I also wanted for her to accept Welkin's help... do understand she heard all the doubt from her comrades. And she feels as a Monster.

I thought he wasn't being forceful enough with it. She's completely insecure about everything right now, and he didn't go far enough in reassuring her that everything's alright. He said it, but not well enough.

When Alicia told him to let go, I was hoping for him to yank her closer and hug her, telling her he'd never let go or something like that. That would have been much more emotional, compared to his, what I'd call reasoning with her that she's really the same Alicia, because frankly, she's not.

But that's not the problem. What matters is that Welkin will fully embrace her, past, present or future. Of course, that's asking too much from his passive personality. If my squad started talking like that about Alicia, I'd get fired up.

I did like the Welkin-Faldio confrontation though. It was expected that Welkin would express his emotions like that, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching him speechless as Faldio asked him what he should have done instead. It once again shows that Welkin really is lost when there's no ideal solution.

It was redeeming that he stayed silent, rather than spout some baseless nonsense about not shooting Alicia.

General Daemon.....lol. I want to see him on the battlefield. Even the worst Imperial snipers can't possibly miss such a fat target.

Alicia was just being too stubborn. It would be unreasonable to ask anyone to keep chasing after you several times, after you have rejected their offer to help. Alicia even pleaded with him not to chase after her in tears, so it would be correct to assume (even if that was not really the case) she really does not want his company, at least at that time. Rather than a lack on Welkin's part, I see the whole thing as Alicia's overreaction.

I was editing while you posted, so some stuff I might have addressed.

I really meant Welkin should have been more assertive about his support for Alicia right when Squad 7 started discussing the issue, and right after they stopped running.

Alicia pleeded to him not to chase after her because she thinks Welkin doesn't realise she's not the same person that he knew, as if he has chosen to ignore the fact that she's now an awakened Valkyrur. He didn't bring that up once to her. His manner of speech was also too passive, talking about how she was there for him, so he's now here for her, repaying her.

Welkin failed to convey to her that he doesn't give a shit she's a Valkyrur.

I'm a bit confused. Isn't ignoring the fact that she is a Valkyrur the same as not giving a shit that she is a Valkyrur? It is not like Welkin is pretending that she isn't, just that she is still Alicia no matter what (which I believe he stated verbally). Alicia is certainly way too demanding if she wants to hear the things you have written down, especially on the spot without preparation. Only a mind reader would manage that.

I am not saying that it is impossible for Welkin to stop Alicia at that point. If he did indeed manage to say what you wrote down, Alicia might not have run away. What I have been saying from the start is that Alicia is being unreasonable. Welkin performed at least above average in his attempt to convince her. If that doesn't work, it is Alicia's fault, not Welkin's.

In a sense, yes, but the difference is in how it comes out. Ignoring means disregarding it, whether it is conscious or not. Under the right circumstances it is akin to avoiding. By "Not giving a shit", I intended it to mean he acknowledges that she's different, but his feelings towards her haven't changed.

They key thing there was that Welkin made it sound like Alicia hasn't changed, while Alicia insisted that she has.

I know what you're saying, and I guess it comes down to whether we saw it as Alicia crossing her line, or Welkin not meeting his.

I'm surprised. I actually liked this episode, probably due to multiple factors.

There wasn't anywhere near as many awkward character-interaction scenes, which has become all to common for this show lately. Flow was better IMO, and I'm pretty sure no one here boo-ed Welkin when he hit the brass (hopefully a KO punch. ).

I've always wondered where Alicia got her powers from, and why in contrast the Princess is so powerless for a legendary Valkyrur. The way the Princess worded things, I'm sure the next sudden WTF moment is when they announce Alicia as the real princess/Valkyrur, and the Princess is a replacement or something.

My mind eased a little when Squad 7 started to regret their actions against Alicia, though I am still a bit mad from their previous hurtful comments. Looks like a rematch next episode.

I think I understand why Shinta was saying the Valkyria thing felt too sudden. It wasn't presented as it was on the game. In the game we knew of Selvaria's power ever since they meet on the Valkyrur ruins. Instead of having Alicia and Faldio get trapped, in the game you fought a Valkyria-empowered Selvaria.

And lol at Cordelia having a wig in the anime. She just had her funny hat in the game.

That would probably be it. If I had seen it beforehand, I wouldn't think it random at all. I still wouldn't enjoy it as much because of the hax capabilities, but that is just my personal preference.

Works better on a game I guess.
BTW... Valkyria Chronicles 2, for PSP, has just been announcer for a western release in Summer 2010

Fat asshole goes down, blond asshole steps up.
    Must be tough being royal.

The legend gets a major turn around though. I certainly wasn't expecting Cordelia to be a Darcsen, though I expected her to not be of Valkyrur blood. So the legend was all about keeping the Valkyria name all noble at the expense of the Darcsen's, even though they're most likely the ones who blew everything up. I'm all eyes and ears for how the legend goes, since there's nothing else to grab my attention.

I vote for the pony-tail general to kill the prince and marry the princess.

edit: lol @ Maximillion randomly living next to an orphanage.

What was Maximillian doing there? Taking a survey? That sure was coincidental.

At least, Daemon died, hopefully. Looks like Maximillian is taking a crazed turn next episode.

I actually think Selvaria managed to hide herself in Palace Grounds.

Yet this makes me think... was Alicia from the Empire on this continuity? The anime I mean.
