Just released.
Romance Dawn
Holy shit.
Huh, is it me or is this special using Oda's old art style before he made the switch?
Eeee! Brook spoilers!
Oh well. I'll just have to suck it up.
You know, for one of those cheesy one-off pirates, that guy was surprisingly brave. Even after finding out who Luffy was and his whole crew giving up, he was still willing to take him on, and was even threatening him after he had been defeated.
Ballsy. He gets a thumbs up from me!
Yes, that was on purpose. The story of Romance Dawn took place in East Blue in the manga.Originally Posted by animus
Yeah, well that Crescent Moon Gary guy was a prototype for Buggy. He wasn't a one off -- we've seen him in the anime before. Smoker catches him at Loguetown.Originally Posted by DarthEnder
Actually, a lot of his crew were prototypes for later pirates. (The fatty was the prototype for Shanks' fatty, for example)
The dynamics of this special were really limping. The fight between Luffy and those pirates, once Luffy was wrapped in ropes by the stupid villagers (why did he allow that in the first place?), was so out there it wasn't even funny. The mustache captain almost killing Luffy, eh? The whole plot was too recycled as well, anyway.
The only good thing was the captain's high level of courage that DE mentioned.
This was originally the story of one of 4 romance dawn manga that served as the basis for One Piece. In the original manga, Luffy was alone so most of the stuff that was happening makes sense. This was suppose to be a special that is meant as a treat for the fans that want to see the Romance Dawn manga animated, it's not suppose to be taken seriously.
Right. It certainly makes a lot more sense if you know that...
Yeah. The inclusion of the Thousand Sunny and the Straw Hats was a last minute decision. Originally the special was going to be 100% loyal to the Romance Dawn prototype.
Heck... Silk was one of Nami's prototypes.
I, I was wondering why the whole thing seemed like it just took a bunch of elements from early One Piece arcs and mashed them together.Originally Posted by Dark Dragon
Yep but i have to say i would have preferred if they had made a romance dawn that was 100% faithful to the original story.
Knowing that the 300 mil Luffy had troubles against such a no name kind of ruined it for me.
I think that in the original story he had even less problems.
and was a bit cooler.
"it's coming.... my left arm!" BHAAM!
sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.
You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.
It was a bit cooler cause he took care of all of them alone in a matter of seconds. Besides he was still just normal luffy.
This could almost be used as an introduction for someone new to the series if they thought they might like to get into One Piece. I might show it to a few friends.
I think I know precisely what I mean
when I say it's a schpadoinkle day
Really? Honestly i don't think i would have started watching one piece if i had to base my opinion on that episode.Originally Posted by Raven
Show them some major fights like croc vs luffy or rob lucci, that will surely make them fans
Nah, I disagree, you can't show them the big climax fights to start with or the rest of the series will seem sub-par in comparison. You need to introduce concepts and characters and then later show what they're capable of.
