This season will be full of win. And best of all... there's enough material to stop them from making half-assed episodes (based or not based on the author's ideas... while I can accept Harue-san's business as canon... the swimsuit episodes, the teacher episodes and Konori's episode were crap in Railgun)

And wow at the number of characters. They are multiplying.

Touma's harem will expand to greater numbers.

Indeed. There are a ton of new characters. At least four distinct nuns alone (and that is not even including Index). Moreover, I can't see most of that montage as single serving characters either, or at least I hope not. This should set the series up for a very solid 24 episodes at the least, though I also hope they don't try to rush things.

The first half of Railgun wasn't bad...but you just can't compare a series about Espers to one about the clash between science and magic. The preview alone is enough to convince me of that.

What Index delivers where Railgun anime failed (the manga of Railgun doesn't suffer from this) is constant use of their characters, not forgetting about them

Heck... even Hyouka is on the trailer, when (as far as I remember) she had dissapeared in the last arc of Index.

The first half of Railgun anime was animated almost faithfully. It just expanded a bit of Saten and Uiharu. The 2nd half consisted of half filler and half series created with the author input... but just that... input... the author didn't write it, so the characters became bland or cliched. The real 2nd half of Railgun, unanimated at this moment, is superb. It may lack the confrontation of Magic vs Science... but it helps to fill lots of holes from Index (at least on Mikoto's side)

Im really excited to see this series. I just hope a decent group picks up this (Eclipse please... not Commie... not Mazui... and good... NOT GG)

    When does it start?

Nice. September does look evil (with the lack of One Piece manga), but October looks promising.

I liked the hair. It was positively more natural-looking than a lot of other cosplays.

A fun piece of info i found

In October 2009, the Toaru Majutsu no Index light novels were reported to have sold 5.2 million copies.

In May 2010, it was reported that Toaru Majutsu no Index had sold over 7.7 million copies and became Dengeki Bunko's No. 1 bestseller.

Later that year, in August 2010, it was reported that the novels had hit 9 million copies sold and became the fifth best selling light novel in Japan, beating other popular series such as Full Metal Panic!, Shakugan no Shana, and Haruhi Suzumiya.
Also, a new fighting game for the psp is coming out

Looks good even if the number of characters is small

Hah. It sold more than Shana and Haruhi? Nice.

I hope the localized first season does well enough (though I doubt it) so it guarantees the novel version of Index gets localized. Three Haruhi Novels have been published already with the next coming on november... whereas Shana got its first novel published back in 2007 but never got past that...

Index (S1) and Railgun got recently licensed by Funimation... whereas a company I hadn't heard of before, Seven Seas or something, is going to publish the Index manga... until june 2011... bleh. I want the novels. All 22 of them.

On second thought... it ain't surprising Index sells more than Haruhi... Haruhi only has 9 novels whereas Index has 22...

    EDIT:
    CORRECTION!
Seven Seas Entertainment ISN'T going to publish the Index manga... its releasing the RAILGUN manga

    Im so buying that

This felt more like a summary and introduction episode than any real episode standing on its own. Even without the blatant flashbacks. But I guess it's cool, even though it hasn't been that long since Railgun. At least the scene after the credits felt like a real beginning of a second season.

Regardless it was pretty good. The best scene in the actual episode was of course Sphinx helpfully leading Touma to a... trashcan and the remains of a fish. Considering what manner of an episode this was having such a basic Mikoto scene in was fitting as well. Her flashy antics were a good reminder of why I like her character so much in combination with Touma.

This will surely be one of the best shows of the season. Oh, and the best scene of it all was the completely crazed appearance of Accelerator in the OP. The bullet must have knocked a few screws really loose in its wake.

So index is still an annoying self entitled brat ... gotta love consistency

    Opening:

Accelerator is getting some of the spotlight as well? That's surprising. I also wonder if that bullet to the head made him a tad less HAXXOR, if not any and every fight involving him will be terribly dull.

Misaka looks like a stalker... not sure how i feel about that, let's see how it goes

Impressive amount of boobs, this pleases me

No Saten... and i'm guessing Uiharu won't get much air time either. Too bad, i was counting on at least Saten hanging around and realizing Misaka's crush on Touma. The dere dere ration would be exponentially higher should that be the case.

    Also, holy nun fetish batman!

    Episode:

Did anyone get why he closed his eyes half the time? Was he preparing himself to receive a grimoire?

Why was Misaka reminiscing about that particular scene? They met afterwards in the fight against the golem magician. Or did the anime switch the order of those events? Anyway that's all beside the point, did she really just try and give him her cellphone number? And with such a tsun approach too... <3

Ok so some guy ruins my homework, trashes my apartment and tries to kill me and my moocher... obviously i must help this man in his plight! Touma is too nice of a guy >_>

Like Kraco said, a lighthearted episode that was just enough to quench my thirst for moar Index and still left enough so i'm itching for my next fix

    Epilogue:

Kanzaki needs more airtime man... maybe she could join the harem for that

Hmmm. I'm honestly surprised they decided to animate this small arc after all. They did skip it last season in order to enter they Hyoka arc.

Answering both of you, Kraco and Archie, about the particular flashbacks we saw, specially when Mikoto came into scene... this episode is called August 31st. Its the last day of summer vacation. Meaning this takes place before the Hyoka arc (which takes place on September 1st)

    And not just that.

This episode takes place at the same time Accelerator is saving Last Order. The very same night. And to end it... it takes place a few hours after Touma fought the fake-Mitsuki-Aztec-magician that has a crush on Mikoto, that is why she blushed so much this time around. She still had fresh on her mind whatever Touma said (since we never learnt it)

This story was the weakest of the 3 small stories that take place on August 31st, so I wasn't surprised it was skipped last time. Even so... the manga did present this in the actual timeline before Hyoka.

My guess is that they decided they wanted to animate everything after all... and to start the season with an episode semi-focused on Index.

Regarding the opening. Im quite happy to see Accelerator between the 'main' characters this time around. I hope to see more of the bastard. And like I said before... wow at the number of characters.

Anyone surprised the ending shows Mikoto first? And even between Touma and Index?

The epilogue with Kanzaki and Tsuchimikado was awesome. Im very interested on why Kanzaki is acting against the English.

Nah, I'm not surprised at all. Granted, I haven't read the source material and thus my words are nothing but guesses, but surely the author realised early on most readers would be Mikoto-Touma shippers. Hell, the author himself might be one. I wouldn't exactly call this high literature so pleasing the audience to a certain degree is given as well. What I'm saying is that if the audience wants to see Mikoto+Touma scenes, they should receive them.

Wasn't she a stalker from the beginning? She was always chasing Touma, first to beat him in a fight as he was one of the few people she couldn't immediately beat, and then for other, less bloody reasons.
