I suppose that cleared up quite a few things about Index. She declared that she cannot cast spells (but her automated programs could?) but Countercasting is still a pretty cool trick. She's not totally useless after all. It isn't as absolute as Touma's ability obviously, but it works for the most part. A skill one could only possibly accomplish by knowing absolutely everything about all of magic.
Aside from what I can only guess is due to her regular memory wipes, how is it that Index never used this before against the people chasing her, like Kanzaki or Stiyl? Kanzaki I might understand, since she usually uses swordplay and tricks rather than magic, but Stiyl never should have been an issue for her.
In addition, this episode made me change my opinion of Hyouka as well. I'm quite impressed with her courageous move to become a punching bag to save others. That sickening crunch at the end of the episode is most likely her.
It might be bad if she starts to enjoy it though...
A jolly good episode. I was also positively surprised Index isn't useless. Furthermore, she didn't even hesitate. Quite a hard to predict character. She is weak in many ways but did what she could. You can't really ask more than that. I have a little better opinion of her now.
The golem magician is starting to give me the kind of feeling she has been doping herself with something. She's proceeding maniacally, like driven with a whip, and her basic behavior isn't much different. Some sort of a fanatic. Even ignoring Touma's Accelerator silencing straight right and getting back to drawing as soon as she landed.
Personally I found the episode so boring the scene I enjoyed the most was Index's at the end. Her spell counter is really good, but like Ryll I question why she didn't use it against Stiyl. Its this very same Index after all, not a memory wiped new one.
I wanted Touma to touch Hyouka, lol.
Agreed pretty much 100%. I did enjoy Index rockign it. It was quite a surprise and a good one at that. That said I did enjoy the techno soundtrack that was playing in the back at the very beginning of the episode even before they showed the opening theme.Originally Posted by RyougaZell
Good episode, and I can't blame Index for not being able to combat that golem effectively since Touma did destroy her system the first time around. However, Hyouka's explained position was very lonely, since she couldn't even interact with anyone and never had a friend until she met Index, and decide to become a bait for her cause.

We can compare Index to cracker and spells to PC. She could "hack" the golem if it was controlled directly from magician(just like man in the middle wi-fi attack), but it was impossible when it changed to automatic mode(just like turning off wi-fi in case of this attack).
Overall good ep, but the damned techno beginning nearly made me stop watching this...

Index was totally cool how she handled the golem. Too bad it'll probably be a one-off thing.
I've got a feeling Hyouka will disappear again, but who knows - The Touma's-Harem Fraction only seems to grow with each encounter.
It also seems like grenades are a foreign concept in the science city. Lobbing one ot two at the magician should do the trick, rather than ineffectively blasting the golem.

This was announced at the end of episode 24 of the series in a flyer image.

*RZ is indeed melting*
*RZ is algo having a nosebleed*
WOHOOOO!!!
Did they give any date? I was hoping for Season 2 of the series (since there are still another 12 novels), but Railgun is amazing as well
Ah what the heck... I think I stained the front the pants after that...

I hope the series gets released this year. I will be a very happy RZ if that happens.
And I see good chances for a 2nd Season of Index after this. We still have 13 more novels to cover![]()
It does look promising and indeed a great addition to the usual Indexless show, except we get more of Mikoto and Kuroko this time around!

Nice. It would be good to get a break from the current storyline too just to keep everything dynamic.

The previously announced and much anticipated Misaka Mikoto gaiden anime, entitled “A Certain Scientific Railgun” (or something to that effect) has been dated with an unexpectedly early release, surprising fans.
The anime will begin airing in October 2009; length is not mentioned, but the addition of a variety of thus far unseen characters is.
Fans are most pleased, as a 2010 release had been feared.
Via the May issue of Dengeki Daioh.

October eh? RZ should be pleased.
Wohooo!!!!!
That is quite excellent news!! Late year it may be, but it still will be 2009. Excellent. Looking forward for it. A LOT.
Doesn't this deserve its own thread? LOL

This makes me wonder if they are introducing some new characters in the Railgun series, and whether or not Touma will make an appearance as either a side character or cameo, along with other supporting characters.
