    I did use it as an example, but your dumbassery seems to block your eyes from viewing it properly. You have no basis for your arguments at all.

    And here's another dumbass comment from the Archangel. You know when you lost an argument when you have nothing else to bicker about. Now, get on with it.

    I wonder what will happen after this arc is over? Maybe Touma will be back in the hospital again (seems like a running gag) and things will clear up and motives will be explained.

    Touya having an Imagine Breaker would justify why he collects so many lucky charms. But from the explanation, Imagine Breaker dispels all forms of supernatural power, including one's luck. Depending on whether luck from Feng Shui is external, as opposed to the luck you're born with (internal), it may not have an effect at all.

    If you knew that you had luck-dispelling hand wouldn't you have been trying anything to have luck?

    Didn't Index say that as long as Touma's hand was in contact with the air he would keep on having bad luck. So wouldn't wearing a glove help with that? But if that were the case then i'm sure his dad would have already tried that if he had it too.

    It could be that Touya's Imagine Breaker works in a different way and is located somewhere else. Sometimes, what is passed down from father to son isn't always the same.

    As for Feng Shui, as long as Imagine Breaker doesn't touch them, their external luck can affect anyone within its vicinity, which is why Tsuchimikado didn't want Touma to touch them.

    - That just sounds fucking weird O_o

    - If Index's theory is correct and Imagine Breaker dispels luck just by touching the air, just his presence should eliminate luck, so i don't know how much of an defense feng shui can prove to be

    Touma has had virtually no bad luck during the whole show, at least when it really counts, so I don't know why you guys are paying so much attention to it. Like has been said many times: Quite a few hot chicks like him (a whole army if you count the clones), he has won all the fights eventually, he doesn't seem to have too bad financial problems, hasn't been kicked out of the school, both parents are alive and don't hate him, he seems to have a very interesting life not leaving him bored for a moment and granting him friends left and right... Just where does this so called bad luck lurk specifically?

    I personally think it's nothing else than a half external detail used for isolated comedic scenes but playing no part whatsoever in the story at large.

    I agree with Kraco.

    We may just have over-emphasized his bad luck by comparing it to different sources. If his luck was really bad and not just for comedic effects, he would have been destroyed a long time ago against people that were more powerful than him. With brains and brawns, Touma can really be very tough in certain situations, so the only "bad" lucks that happen to him would be those that doesn't affect him that much (I.E. tripping over a can, having fleas in his room).

    Well... without getting into spoilers... pre-anime, during the Railgun manga, he keeps getting his things broken or lost. He even gets his card stuck in an ATM or something.

    Maybe Index is absorbing his bad luck... she got crashed by a door this previous episode (her best scene till now)

    Dissapointment actually.
    Since I can't read Japanese everything I read (summaries) about the novels pointed out that Index could have been a cool character, but she ended up being annoying as hell.

    The bad luck they are referring to should be restricted to everyday situations, since his imagine breaker seems to slowly but continually eliminate any luck that is supposed to come his way eventually.

    His fights are relatively short, so slowly eliminating luck through his aura should have no real effect. Other than that, luck in this context does not seem to affect human feelings or relations at all, but rather things that are purely left to chance, like the lottery, or a vending machine breaking on you.

    Looking at it from another POV, he almost got killed several times, got his arm cut off and lost his memory. He seems damn unlucky to me.

    @RZ - I totally agree with you about Index. She is simply annoying, and brings nothing to the show. She is also overshadowed by practically every other female character despite her name being part of the series title.

    I don't see any ill luck there. He beat several opponents that should have beaten him instead. The arm was the luckiest thing of all: If you lose a whole arm, you are damn lucky if the doctors just reattach it and it simply works again as if nothing happened.

    I'm not really willing to even admit catching the feather with his head was bad luck. Since the feathers were falling from the sky like raindrops, it was more natural to be hit by one than not. It was simply his inexperience of battle conditions to ignore them and concentrate solely on Index.

    Your slowness explanation makes no sense to me. Sure, fights are short, but I think using a vending machine takes still much shorter a time, eh?

    It is the everyday things that you do that get affected. Fights are rare, at least compared to buying drinks from vending machines. Fights also last a short time, so the effect of the imagine breaker should be significantly lessened. Luck is all about probability. What I am proposing is that the imagine breaker is constantly removing luck, meaning the probability of him having trouble with tasks that he does all the time is much higher than something done once a month. This also applies to things that occur over long periods of time, simply because they are exposed to the luck removing power for a longer time, and gains a bigger chance of turning out bad. I just phrased it in a rather strange way to match the idea of magic and energy removing luck (which I think is bogus anyway).

    About his luck... You have to consider that having all these problems in the first place is quite a streak of bad luck. Good luck is usually defined as when things go your way or even better than expected. He seems to be faced with one trial after another, which he only barely survives. He seems lucky if you view events in his life in the context of what is happening (like how he managed to defeat accelerator when he should have been pulverized), but such a life seen in the bigger picture is hardly lucky.

    To put it simply, not losing the arm in the first place is lucky. Getting it reattached is mere consolation.

    Of course, Touma is satisfied with his current life (as his father noted), and happiness is not defined by luck or how well things go for a person anyway.

    If you buy a lottery ticket once a year, how high are your annual chances of winning in lottery compared to if you bought the ticket every week? The role of luck is lessened by repetition. Though if you simply mean that he uses a vending machine 100 times a year and loses his coins 50 times, it's given we are going to see him lose the coins a few times if we see him use the machine frequently. But as he fights rarely we might never see him lose, due to statistical reasons (too small sample size).

    I guess you do have a point, after a fashion.

    Remembering what we've seen on the anime... he dropped his phone and crushed it... then he lost 5000 yen on a soda machine (which Mikoto bolted afterwards).

    We've really just seen everyday bad luck for him actually.

    He hasn't had bad luck on fights because his Imagine Breaker keeps breaking the spells of the others, which makes me think that on a pure fist fight with no cocky espers or magicians he may end up losing badly.

    And about the example you used Kraco, of losing his coins 50 out of a 100 times... I think in Touma's case its more like losing the coins 90 out of a 100 times. At least thats the way he makes you think as the series began.

    Shinta:
    I actually wish they had used the ORIGINAL title of the series...
    To aru Majutsu Kinsho Mokuroku (A Certain Magical Forbidden Library... I think)

    The title on the first volume reads:

    とある魔術の禁書目録

    Which translates A Certain Magical Forbidden Book Index.

    禁=Kin - Forbidden
    書=Sho - Book
    目録=Mokuroku - Index

    In proper English syntax, it should be translated as A Certain Magical Index of Forbidden Books.

    That makes more sense that what I had seen. I think it was Librorium. Whatever.

    Anyway... I still don't know why decided to use Majutsu no Index instead of Majutsu no Kinsho Mokuroku.

    Either way... both titles make reference to the Database on Index's head... and yet we've had 3 arcs without taking interest on such thing. And Index has barely appeared as well. Weird title.
