    Assassin's Creed question

For those who've played Assassin's Creed on the PC, early on I get these scenes where an NPC is talking and Altair is basically frozen and you can only move a little to the left and right, and occasionally change camera angles. There is no dialogue but the NPC is clearly saying something, though you can't hear it at all. Is that a part of the gameplay, which makes more sense when you remember more from the past, or is my system glitching?

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

Sounds like something is wrong, I can't remember any scenes without dialogue, I think I would have remembered if there were any. I'm not 100% sure though, it's been a few months since I played it.

Did you play it on a console? I've heard there are glitches with the PC port of the game, though I've patched it to the latest version. Next I'm going to turn off any extra sound and video settings to see if that helps.

The game is riddled with glitches it doesn't matter where you play it. If its early in the game, then you being unable to move except a little to the left or right and change the camera angles is normal. That just sounds like when the animus is loading though I can't say for sure because that isn't really a good description. I think you're probably just having a problem with the sound.

Anyway Ani do you know that there is a "Help Me" thread, so you don't have to make a new thread every time you have something to ask. Just saying.....

Well it's like a cutscene but it's in-game. As you walk up to a particular NPC, the camera shifts focus to him, then your movements are restricted. You can't use any of the commands and you can't move beyond a few steps either way. Occasionally the screen will "glitch", at which point you're supposed to click a button in order to get an alternate view of the scene. You can see the NPC's mouth moving, but no sound comes out. The background music continues to play so I don't think it's an audio problem. Eventually the scene completes and you're released to continue on your way, but none the wiser about the purpose of the sequence.

Okay, yeah glitches like that are common in the game. Is this in the beginning of the game when you're just heading back to the castle and you have to talk to the guy at the gate? Anyway like I said glitches like that aren't uncommon in the game lets just hope you don't encounter anymore.

You're talking about game bugs though, correct? Because "glitches" are actually a part of the game, though I can't remember from the tutorial if that's what they are referred to as in the game. A game "glitch" in AC is when the screen does the Matrix thing and you see all the chemistry code on the screen for a sec, at which point you're supposed to click a button to see the scene from a different perspective.

Yeah, sorry you are correct. I'm talking about bugs, and yeah glitches are what those scenes are called in the game. This is all very confusing.

I played it on PC, and I don't think I noticed anything like that. http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic103763.html
Might help. Unless it was just one particular NPC, then I have no idea.

You sure you're not eavesdropping on the guy by accident? Otherwise, I don't have any idea. I've only watched my brother play the game.

I'll have to wait until I get home to try this, but I think it's a winner. I have a SoundMAX onboard audio card (I know, shoot me). Glad I checked into this. I was going to just continue to play thinking it was normal gameplay. Thanks, man.

That fixed it. Not sure what I'm losing by using basic acceleration all the time, but at least the game audio works. Thanks Xrlderek, I owe you one.
