Nice to see you back on the forums, Xan. That's some inspirational stuff right there, something to make it all worth while. Glad everything is going well for you. Abdula is back too, in case you hadn't seen any of his posts.

“For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?”
Hey Xan, it's great knowing that you're back with a great outlook at life.
You should have taught that kid how and when to properly capitalize his/her writing, though.
Instead of starting a derail about Linguistic code-switching between high and low prestige dialects of language and stating that idiosyncratic speech patterns transmitted through a social networking website have no bearing on intelligence or ability to write effectively, I think I'll just call you a moron and move on.

<@Terra> he told me this, "man actually meeting terra is so fucking big", and he started crying. Then he bought me hot dogs
I don't know, man... wouldn't teaching the kid how to capitalize their writing improve his/her efficiency of using the computer? Writing is an essential skill for communicating and getting jobs out there, y'know. In the other thread, you said you were teaching kids who were 10 years younger than you, so they're around the age of 15 - an age where some of your students should be learning basic skills so that they can start applying for part-time jobs and whatnot.
Nonetheless, I applaud you for teaching them "Life Lessons" and "Telling [him/her] Who Not To Go Out With". It's very unfortunate that we don't see more accountable and diligent role models in the continent's educational system. Thank you for another year well done, "Mr. c".
ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL RIGHT
I GOT INTO MY TOP PICK ENGINEERING MAJOR

enkoujin, congrats, just remember to keep on top of your homework. And don't cheat unless they're forcing you to use Blackboard(TM).
No it won't. Don't be a Debbie Downer because you fucked your own life up. Opportunities like that are only squandered by oneself through stupid decisions (playing MMOs all day and night, drinking to the point of alcohol poisoning, knocking up high-school aged one-night stand, etc.).
There's no cosmic sabotage involved.

Thanks, Ryllharu!
And yeah, from this point, I gotta work extra hard or else I'll die from work overload, haha.
Congrats man!
I have to organise a placement for the end of this year as well, and 2 places I've contacted are full while anotheren't gotten back to me for weeks now.
I wish we had a preference system instead of having to organise it all privately.
If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~

Yes one should have a back up plan. That much is a given and Ryllharu said absolutely nothing to contradict that. You however stated
and he simply pointed out that that is not true.
. Wait a minute of all people I should know I cannot win this one so I am just walking away now
Dreaming impossible dreams.
Sapphire is awesome!
Right now, I've been accepted into chemical engineering with a minor/specialization in Energy and the Environment. The workload for chemical engineering at my school is relatively low compared to the more rigorous mechanical engineering program here. I may drop my minor/specialization if things get too heated, but it's very unlikely because I have a strong interest in green technology and efficiency. If all else goes wrong with my studies, I can try switch to a different engineering major (probably civil or mechanical) if I really don't like chemical engineering, but that's unlikely as well.
Thanks for the warning, Ani.
When did people here all of a sudden become able to give and take criticism without letting things devolve into a flame war? That made me smile.

You of all people know life is suffering, so how can you doubt shit will get fucked up? Also, I said "if it gets a chance". If you don't have a backup plan, that's just encouraging the universe to fuck with you.
You should know you cannot win this one because you didn't come correct. I covered all my bases.
Fuck it dude, you should go into petroleum engineering and get busy on those tar sands. There's gold in them thar sands.

That's the plan!
In this notoriously "evil" province of Canada, most engineers of any discipline will work in the petroleum industry here because of the big bucks. There's actually a specific petroleum engineering major we have at my school dedicated solely for the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas and they get paid more than any type of engineering in this province - the same thing should apply with the US in that the highest-paying engineer job is petroleum engineering. I decided not to go into that major because chemical engineering is so much more diverse and conventional as it can open up pharmaceutical, biomedical and nanotechnological options for me.
I plan to work in the petroleum industry for the early part of my career until Canada starts seeing more green engineering in this country because we all know that in the long run, oil and gasoline isn't going to last us forever despite some claims of oil being able to last for another 400+ years. When you hear news like this, it'd be a shame not to pick up anything that touches up on alternative technology or improving on concurrent systems in terms of efficiency. I can always do a masters in another department of engineering as well so I can make full use of my specialization.
Nonetheless, thanks a lot, guys!! I really appreciate your well-wishings!

Congrats Enkoujin -if you enjoy it - go for it(i know i wouldn't due to my hatred towards anything with 'bio' in it :P).
Feeling of getting into your first choice is awesome.

Woke up to a bright and sunny 61 degree Fahrenheit morning in the middle of June. I think I'll be smiling all day.
