    Manga: Vulgar Ghost Daydream

Here's the winner of the third round of "GW Reading the Same Manga: New Edition". To all of you who said that they will take part in this, please read the manga. If you don't like it, at least read some of it and comment on what you've read or the impression you got from it at least.

This round was for "Dark Dragon's Anime", and the manga that won was a series that is almost done being scanlated, Vulgar Ghost Daydream, so I advise that you should be careful reading the posts that follow this one if you haven't read it to the latest volume and if you don't want to get spoiled. For those who have read all releases, try not to say much about what happens until at least 3 days from now to give some people a chance to read it. And to everyone, please preface all your posts with the volume and chapter you've read to, that way we know up to where in the manga the content of your post will be up to, and diminish the risk of getting spoiled by any given post.

    From Dark Horse:
Misaki Saiki, a young woman with a troubled past, is a professional dominatrix in one of Tokyo's most exclusive S&M clubs. However, her real money is something she likes even less than being a dominatrix. Ever since childhood, Misaki has had the ability to see and communicate with ghosts, and that talent is put to use by the Livelihood Protection Agency, who pairs Misaki with Souichiro Kadotake, a martial artist who happens to be deathly afraid of ghosts. Using her gifts, Misaki is able to help troubled departed spirits resolve what is troubling them and allow them to move on to the afterlife. If all THAT isn't odd enough, Misaki is an albino AND a virgin.

Wut? It was only one vote ahead. Oh well. S&M? I like the sound of that.
I think I shall watch the anime first, then read all of the manga.

One vote is one vote... just the way it is. But 9 volumes shouldn't be that much of a burden, though I'll probably start reading TenTen soon anyways.

I was thinking of getting the anime myself, but I think I'm just going to stay with the manga for now.

Gotta start to download this one... I hope it's good. Recently I've been stopping in the middle of an increasing number of anime and manga. Somehow they just don't inspire anymore like they used to. But for me, there still should be plenty of potential in the world of manga I've barely scraped so far.

Just finished volume 1. Not bad, I can see myself sticking to this all the way through. Not sure I completely understand the concepts yet, but I'm getting there.

I just read the first chapter myself, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Will surely keep with it, don't know how fast I'm going to go through it though.

But some cool characters, some humor here and there, a bit of action. I'm also glad that they hinted a to a bigger plot in the background right off the bat. I was worried that this was going to be one of those mangas that they work one case in one chapter and they simply go to the next one in the following chapter. But now I have something to look forward to.

I'm reading v2c2 right now and this looks like an interesting enough story. It's kind of ambiguous, though, hard to grasp. I'm not sure what you meant with the bigger plot in the background, perhaps that BBS, but I wouldn't say there's anything really concrete there yet. All in all it might not even be easy to have a bigger plot with a setting like this, but let's hope the mangaka managed to pull that off somehow.

In any case there's fanservice plentifully enough though S&M isn't exactly anywhere near the center of my interests...

I've read up to volume 4, but the only thing that really stands out is from the first volume.

What is going on with the rope thing Misaki has? It's normally bondage-coiled around her, but she uses it as a weapon, and it appears to be sentient. Most importantly, it feeds on bodies and blood. Is it possessed?

That's certainly the freakiest thing in the series to me.

Uh, I didn't remember to post this earlier but I too have read up to volume 4 and I gotta say there really doesn't seem to be much there. I think the rope could be interesting but they don't seem to be interested in explaining that or much else, maybe they are saving that for later although I have no idea why. Anyway everything just seems to be too random and confusing thus far and the story doesn't seem to be going anywhere at all, ironically the same problems I have with TT. Anyway I'll try and read the remaining volumes soon and see if things improve.
