I don't remember the manga so well, but I'm sure reading it I was also thinking what an idiotic man. If he had just done what Rin demanded, he could have kept living with his son, who would have remained none the wiser. But instead he thought he should, unnecessarily, hide a murder with another murder. Right within the walls of his own home, to boot.
