I'm pretty sure more than half of his motivation is to murder Rin just like her mother. The dude is evil. Rediscovering fatherhood doesn't change that.

It's actually quite interesting how he's no genius fighter. He has quite a lot of experience; without it he would totally suck, I'd say.
