I got news for ya. "real" ninjas didn't have a uniform. They were just a bunch of guys using modified farm equipment or weapons they stole or looted from dead people. Some wore swords on their backs, some on their hips. Some didn't use swords. It's a crapshoot.

thats not really news for me because even the anime naruto shows that lol ^^

they used many different weapons like a kama or crossbows and so on, but the katana or wakizashi was the most used weapon in japan however unlike samurais its said that a ninja did also use it as a tool and so on. in japan there is a nice museum about ninjas and they have lots of modified weapons there. some crazy shit. i heard that this gimmickry is similiar to the stuff they build in the Renaissance in europe
