Hmm...the tradition in S.Korea is to visit family, and receive cash from the elders, in the Confucian concept of "money flowing down. What are some customs others might hold for C.NY. (By the way...in Korea, it is called Seolnal)

My family went to a friend's place for dinner last night. There was a snowstorm brewing at the same time so we left right after the meal. When I got home I installed Vista SP1.

I'd say installing SP1 while watching The Office on another computer was a tad more exciting than Chinese New Year.

Chinese new year is always a good time to catch up with relatives whom you only meet once a year. Played a couple of wii games with my cousins today, and gave out some red packets too since I'm too old to receive them anymore

Didn't do much this year since all our relatives are overseas, save for an uncle and aunt, but I remember last year, we had like 2 days of left over food, and it wasn't because it tasted bad. It's a pretty big occasion, but like most celebrations, it boils down to a greeting, followed by a banquet and beverage. It would be good if it was a proper public holiday, then my boss will have to give me Lai Si in the form of double pay.

Bump for this year. Family got together for dinner and festivities yesterday (Sunday) since today might be a conflict since it's a work day. Go go year of the Ox!

    Gong hay fot choi! (Cantonese).

Well, since I can't go anywhere today, I'll still celebrate it with my family and GotWoot people, so Happy Chinese New Year!

Gave away my share of red packets to the little ones around me. Happy year of the ox people!

    Happy Chinese New Year! (Tiger)

I'm 20 and I still get little red packets .

Best wishes for the year to come Gotwooters!

Yeah, I get red envelopes too. It is custom for you to receive them from married family members if you are not married.

Once you're married, you're not qualified to get them any more =(

Hey I got one of those! It had candy and some sort of advertisement for an Asian christian fellowship. o.O I think my friend jacked it from somwhere.

Two different friends are going to chinatown and apparently there's like parades there or something. I suppose I will go, though I am feeling poor and lazy today. I'm sure chinatown will be packed beyond belief (which is scary because during other times of the year it's ALREADY packed beyond belief).

Heh, I'll probably be roaming around then too with some family later in Chinatown too.

I ate soba and had a quiet night with my brother. It almost feels like I'm celebrating a different type of new year.
