Only the eyes have changed. Hair color isnt really that big of a deal, but the minor changes in their eyes practically overhauled the characters. The original had very expressive eye designs that reflected their character a lot, while this one has the generic harem eye type plastered all over the place.

The other Minami family seems interesting enough as well. And it looks like in whatever manner they meet the Minami sisters, it won't ever go too smoothly or boringly.
A great episode once again. Too bad for Yamada, though.
I read all the scanlations that were done, and this first series is very faithful and like Lucky Star, Minami-ke is a 4koma manga. So they took the gist of the four panel stories and made them longer.
And this episode was amazing. I laughed out loud numerous times. Copious amounts of love rivalries incited by the other Minami family challenging the current male pursuers.

I liked a lot the scene where Natsuki came to the class room to see Haruka but got his head pushed between her breasts. While that wasn't anything new as such, the scene was made somehow extraordinary by how it continued. It was like some customary thing from a noble court when he straightened up, put his hands behind his back and then just took the point-blank punch from Haruka, who also seemed to be doing it out of obligation (though she said she was embarrassed).
This show is almost too funny, it's just goes on and on with all the laughs and hilarity even in the most random situations. I mean, they made a little girl kicking a rock down the street both engaging and funny for a full 2 and a half minutes + aftermath, that's just not supposed to happen. I almost want to yell at the creators to make it stop being so funny since they're disturbing the natural order of things wtih this much humor packed into a seemingly absurd show.
And then you have Natsuki who may be even funnier than Hoska (their chemistry was amazing either way). Natsuki's deadpan is just plain epic.

From preview of second season it looks more like second season then alternative version characters slightly more grown up and no Kana isn't shorter then Chika.

What a shame that this ended. The 10 hour Ninomiya-kun and Sensei finale special was hilarious.
Sensei and Ninomiya-kun has to be one of the greatest in-series gigs ever invented.
Omg Hosaka out did himself in this ep, so hilarious. Every little short was just excellent really. Sensei x Ninomiya as a back drop to Hayami x Kana was though it was fairly campy still managed to make me lol hard enough to be heard in other rooms.
A very strong finish for this section? (I'm not really sure what to call it) I just hope the new incarnation can meet or even exceed this one.

Minami-ke Season 2 OP
The song doesn't really feel right with the series but the visuals are chock full of the Minami-ke hilarity we've come to expect. The animation isn't as different as I thought it would be, and for some characters (like Haruka's redheaded friend), it actually looks better then the other one. Add to that the fact that Hosaka made the OP in a way only he could pull off and I have even higher hopes for this next installment.

Yeah, the OP song and images are a bit too serious, however it was so random it was pretty good. Like Banchou falling out of the sky haha. Well, I hope it delivers. I still prefer the old animation more however.
I watched the raw for okawari.
Its a sequel (a real one, as in continuing from the story of the 1st), with slightly different art (to the extent no one would mind).

seems like i have to take back what i said about the animation... its not that bad at all.. even though i prefer the old one, this one is still good... and maybe character"movement" can keep up for it.. maybe its more detailed (what i mean is: maybe it has more FPS)
its very good that it is a sequel too because i liked it how they build up .. uhm how to put it..maybe...."love-story"(?) between banchou + kana and the funny guy (which name i forgot even though i like him so much) who undresses everytime he thinks of something + Haruka
