Avatar Invalid?

I've been trying to upload a new avatar and have failed repeatedly both uploading from a computer and linking from a site. The file is 100x 100 and I've tried it as a jpg, a gif, and a png every time I hit submit it says invalid file. I've removed all the spaces from the filenames and still no luck. Any other suggestions would be nice.

Some general image handling component of this site must be broken. I couldn't upload a normal jpeg to the gallery, either.
