Yes, yes it does. The beginning was rather hard on me, too, because everything feels so different. But once you grow accustomed to the characters, it´s pure genius. Give it another try, for at least till episode 25. That episode, iirc, will then decide if Gintama is for you or not :P

@Ryll - I thought about it and felt that rather than being bad ass, those three complemented each other, but were incomplete by themselves.

@Munsu - You have not seen Fate/Zero? What have you been doing with your life?

Add Hamatora 2014 to that list. Nice is really bad ass in a Kenshin sort of way.

Question: Is Hitsugi no Chaika worth it? Another of those last season-anime I ignored. Watched ep 1, and I thiiiiiink I enjoyed it. Of course, I shook my head when one second the hero says "I´m a worthless good-for-nothing", then transforms into a warrior with red hair the next. sigh. But something about it was intriguing, art style manages to just crawl above the "generic art wall", too. For or against?

    2013
Arpeggio of the Blue Steel - Intelligent and composed protagonist who commands ships.
Majestic Prince - Goofy protagonist that goes eva berserk good in mecha combat.
Mondaiji tachi ga... - OP protagonist. Bad ass incarnate.
Servant x Service - Slice of life, but one of the male characters is pretty bad ass in life.
Strike the Blood - Not really bad ass, but he is one of the strongest in the show.
Unbreakable Machine Doll - The protagonist has his moments. He is smart, calm, yet has that shounen passion.

    2012
Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero - Extremely powerful protagonist with an attitude.
Dog Days 2 - The protagonist is a hero with top tier fighting skills.
Fate/Zero - I didn't want to include this because it should be obvious, but whatever.
Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere - Most of the characters are bad ass. In fact, it is just a confusing mess if not for all the bad assery.
Hyouka - Main character has amazing deductive skills, impressing people in and out of the show.
Medaka Box - Medaka is crazy perfect.
Psycho Pass - The protagonist is silent and brooding, but has amazing skills and intellect.
Sword Art Online - People actually hate the protagonist for being too bad ass.
Well, I'm in the middle of my anime binge watching, so let's see if we can update on the recommendations.

    I've watched from above:

    2013
Arpeggio of the Blue Steel - Just watched it, didn't go anywhere for me.
    Majestic Prince - Not yet.
Mondaiji tachi ga... - Really enjoyed it, too short. Where's my sequel!?
Servant x Service - Not yet.
Strike the Blood - Watched about 8 episodes, honestly not caring much for it so far.
Unbreakable Machine Doll - Not yet.

    2012
Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero - Watched a handful of episodes, now I don't know where I stored it so need to re-download.
Dog Days 2 - Downloaded the first Dog Days but the character design didn't attract me, so haven't given it a try.
Fate/Zero - Not yet, will do so soon.
Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere - Watched the first season, not sure I care much for it, a confusing mess as you said.
Hyouka - Watched one episode, found it boring.
    Medaka Box - Not yet.
Psycho Pass - Loved it, waiting for the 2nd season.
Sword Art Online - I've been following it.

So give me new updates if you guys can.

Currently wathing Zetsuen no Tempest and downloaded Mahouka though not sure if I'll watch that one yet. Also watched Attack on Titan, which I really enjoyed.

    Update as in more recently?

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - Badass. Not much else to add. Except siscon.
No Game No Life - Badass. Not much else to add. Except siscon. And otaku.
Aldnoah Zero - Somewhat emotionless badass.
Log Horizon - Nice, collected guy until he has to fight. Then a not-so-nice, collected guy.
Hataraku Maou-sama! - Demon king sent to the human world. Flexes his badassery from time to time.
Hajime no Ippo - Rising - "Bad" and "Ippo" do not fit in the same sentence. So maybe more "powerhouse".

    Sweet.

I'm not as far behind then.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - I'm already watching, and am caught up to the latest episode.

No Game No Life - I'll have to give this a look, didn't seem like it might fit what I was looking for but seen too much praise for it around.

Aldnoah Zero - I think I overlooked this one as I was looking around, will give it a look.

Log Horizon - I watched it as it aired, and loved it. Looking forward for next season.

Hataraku Maou-sama! - Watched it already, it was a bit hit and miss if I recall correctly, but I enjoyed it fairly enough to entertain me.

Hajime no Ippo - Rising - Big fan of Ippo, for some reason I didn't care enough to watch this series though. I think I should fix that.

PuPiPo! - Short, sweet, and weird as shit. Not really a comedy, not really a drama, 4 minute episodes, interesting art style.

    Kotoura-san
    - Same kinda deal. Heavier on the drama, but still a solid comedy with well-written characters. Suffers a bit in the early second half though.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei - Great animation (motion wise, less so art wise), really strong comedy.

And nobody mentioned Hitsugi no Chaika so far (except tangentially above by MFauli)?

None of the above seem like something I'm particularly looking for at the moment, but we'll see. But Chaika is one I've been keeping my eye on, kinda waiting for Bluray releases on that one, but we'll see.

Now I'm done with all your suggestions + Hitsugi no Chaika. Have 2 more episodes of Aldnoah.Zero left to watch, but otherwise I'm all caught up with your suggestions.

Any more shows around? No need for a badass MC, but good action would do, particularly if well animated.

Do you guys know where I can find some good subs for Fruits Basket?
I got the A4E version years ago and started it only recently. Unfortunately the subs seem to be a transcription from the dubs, so they are very hard to follow as the timing and meaning greatly differs from what I hear.

I know it'll be hard to get just the subs, but I ask just in case. I have enough bandwidth and unlimited plan, but still it would be a shame to redownload everything.

    Help appreciated.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

Well, it's all about dvd ripping groups, so you'll have to test the waters with Anime-Supreme or Exiled Destiny. Download an episode from each and see if you get actual subs instead of dubtitles.

Not yet, but I haven't seen any GITS since Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG and Innocence respectively.

So I want to watch Solid State Society first even if it's not in the same version of the world. But I was looking into it just now actually, so I'll be giving it a look at some point in the near future.
