That's rather difficult unless you give me something more specific. There are a lot of "happy" anime but most of them are also borderline annoying.

Aishiteru ze Baby is a very happy/cute drama story about a highschool student taking care of his 5 year old cousin who was left alone. The main character is somewhat of a playboy so it's quite funny to see him suddenly try to assume the role of a parent.

Watching any animated version of manga written by the great Adachi Mitsuru always leave me smiling so therefore, I recommend the following:

Touch The story revolve around a pair of twin brothers who both have feeling for their childhood friend. The older twin is a slob while the younger is the hero of the school but their childhood friend treat them both equally. It's a drama with a heavy baseball background.

H2 Story involving 2 main characters who are best friends and rivals in both love and baseball. One of the main character suffered an injury that forced him to quit baseball so he enrolled in a highschool that does not have a baseball team but eventually circumstances eventually bring him back into the game.

I know the description of the Adachi works sound really plain but it's really hard for me to give a much better description since i don't want to spoil story elements that get reveal early on. Both anime were from the 80's so they looks outdated but they come with my highest recommendation. Both have their fair share of comedy and tend to come across as funny without being forced and the story is well paced and contain enough twist to keep them interesting.

All of those anime are quite happy so you won't feel depressed watching them.

I imagine Kraco and I would give the same answer when posed with this question.

    ARIA - The Animation
    ARIA - The Natural
    ARIA - Arietta (OVA)
    ARIA - The Orgination
AniDB link to the first series

A slice of life series that you'll either love, or totally hate. I found every single episode (notable exception of 1 in the final series) some of the most relaxing episodes in all of animedom. A perfect series for unwinding a leaving a smile on your face.

Unless you find it boring, and then you won't like it at all. Slice of Life series are not for everyone, they are liked on a case-by-case basis.

Aside from that I completely second Dark Dragon's Ai Baby recommendation.

Bamboo Blade, Kaleido Star, and Kamichu! are also good choices. A highly recommended sports comedy, circus comedy/light drama, and a Middle School Goddess slice of life comedy respectively.

I still recommend watching both seasons of Higurashi. It will leave you smiling at the end of it all.

I have a feeling you have probably have seen these, but I watch these to pick myself up every now and then so no hurting putting these down.

    If your looking for lulz:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamiya(from ANN):
On the first day of high school a beautiful girl named Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself as having "no interest in ordinary humans". She asks for any aliens, time travelers, sliders or espers to join her. Watching her weird behaviour is Kyon who sits in front of Haruhi and is the only person who talks to her. When Kyon comments about Haruhi's joining every club in school and then quitting he unwittingly gives Haruhi an idea to start her own after school club. Thereafter Kyon and several others find themselves dragged, literally, into the Save our world by Overloading it with fun Suzumiya Haruhi's Brigade (the S.O.S. Brigade for short).

    Lucky Star(from ANN):
Portrays the lives of several school girls attending a Japanese high school with a very loose humor tone. The main heroine is Konata Izumi, an athletic and intelligent girl who, despite these attributes, is not in a sports club, and her grades remain low. Her laziness at school is due to her love for anime and video games, and she is not interested in much else.

Ouran High School Host Club(from ANN):
Haruhi is a poor tomboyish student at a school for the ultra-wealthy, able to attend because of a scholarship, and unable to even afford a uniform. One day, she stumbles across the decidedly peculiar but very popular Ouran Host Club. She tries to leave, but accidentally breaks a vase, and unable to pay for it, she's told that she'll have to stay and do odd jobs. That is, until they decide she would be more valuable as a club member. Not realizing she's female due to her appearance, they fix her up and give her a male uniform. She's an instant hit, so they decide to have her keep up the charade even after they find out the truth. Haruhi, being average almost to a fault, doesn't know what to make of the unconventional activities of the Host Club (or of the even more unconventional members), but having little choice, she plays along. Before long, real bonds are formed, friends made, and Haruhi finds herself accepted in a way she could never have been otherwise in this affluent school.

Ill put some more up if I can think of anymore later, im not thinking straight right now its 3:30 am here...

I'd jump in on the recommendation of aria. it's been a while since an anime (or any movie) managed to convince me that the world isn't filled with nothing but hateful, angry, problematic assholes like me.

    Aria is magically optimistic.

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

It might not be your cup of tea, since it is VERY slow and there's not much of a real plot in episodes either. It is very soothing and sweet, but I myself got too bored with it.

Minami-ke first (!) and second season (do you actually call them "seasons" because they are not really related)

the first 2 Blade Child mentioned are very good too

and maybe you want to try Rozen Maiden... it gets extremely funny and cute now and then
but the ending from the second season and the story in general are not really a "happy"... in fact it's a bit creepy sometimes, at least for me.. probably because of the (very good) background music.

hmm maybe you want to add "chobits" to the list too?

    @Xelblair:

Munsu makes good picks for preferences like your own. I couldn't outdo him for this.

I would add Real Drive for your cyberpunk enjoyment. Same author as GiTS and Appleseed. It's more slice of life GiTS with a responsible (not going overboard out of ego/guilt) environmentalism slant. They throw around some interesting ideas too like characters without cybernetic enhancements in a world that practically requires them, love with an android, old people are still totally badass, etc.

I'll also throw in Higurashi (and sequel) again. Anyone who enjoys mystery series and series like Lucky Star should probably see this.

I'll skip Tsukihime and Utawarerumono. i've played Tsukihime and got all pics + endings, and Utawarerumono next in lane.
I'll skip One Pice too... damn hard to find first ep with decent seeds and well - i hate long series.
Thanks of reminding me of Speed Grapher - i've seen 3 ep of it.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

    I'm gonna sleep - its 2am here.

Hey all, unlike Xelbair above I love long series' and was wondering what your opinions are on all things Dragonball (don't laugh!) From what I understand there is Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT, then the movies. Just wanting too know if the series is still worth watching being quite old and extremely long, as it would take me a few months to watch through it all.

There are much better shows than Dragon Ball if you want long shounen series.

    Try
    Hunter X Hunter

You should still watch dragonball, it's like the father of the shonen genre.

I highly recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes

    http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=584

it 110 episodes long of pure epicness. It got many characters(mostly all are very unique, and deeply developed), space battles, politics. It really good classic series that is a must watch if you like space battles and great characters.
