And I want to mention Shigurui again. Awesome samurai anime. Though there might be little hope for someone who hated Elfen Lied and Berserk (though Berserk's manga is much better). I just can't imagine.
Thanks for the recommendation of Mnemosyne and Shigurui...I shall watch them soon

    I never watched Gungrave.

Samurai 7 is the only one that I wouldn't recommend you to watch, since it a pretentious pile of graphics.

Full metal panic is very funny, but lacks a bit in plot consistency.
Ghost in the shell is serious business, so watch it in full concentration.
Hajime is just awesome, so watch it.

then watch berserk again, and make sure to turn your brain on, since you were clearly taking some bad stuff last time.
Thanks ill watch top from bottom but has anyone seen ergo proxy? I heard this is a good anime aswell.

    Finished it.
should have specified that I want to watch an anime that doesn't suck monkey balls and donkey dick.

are Aria and Mahoromatic any good?

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

Mahoromatic is a pretty good show if you do not watch the last episode of the 2nd season.
It's pretty much a Gainax style bullshit ending that will piss you off, not to mention that it feel entirely inappropriate for a romance/comedy.

Very true. If I could watch Mahoromatic again for the first time, I would skip the very ending. I don't know what mushrooms the script writer ate but they were surely loaded with toxins. Otherwise a pretty good series.

Aria is an excellent series if you happen to belong to the portion of people who like such calm slice-of-life series. Should you fall into the other group, you won't see any point in it.

So I just finished Serial Experiments Lain. After 13 episodes I feel like not much happened, so I can't really explain why I liked this, 80's animation and all. But it was very nice. It's one of the few English dubs I've ever cared for (though I haven't heard anything from the Japanese version. The environment is so calm and especially with Lain's family, passive and uncaring. The series doesn't have much music... like someone just pointed out with Casshern Sins, the silence speaks for itself and is very fitting.

Also I find a lot of the series dealing with personal identity/identity crisis get too pretentious but this one keep it fairly simple; Lain exists within "the Wired" (the Internet) and the real world at the same time, and has trouble figuring which is the real one.

There's not much action, the environment pretty much speaks for itself. I would have put this in the series' own thread but well, there isn't one.

I doubt it would gather enough discussion to warrant a thread. Forgot about the sticky though, I always look past it because it's hardly updated.

Can anyone give me some info on Tales of the Abyss?

Does it involve any supernatural powers and stuff like that or is it all about sword fighting?

It involves lots of supernatural powers, strange creatures, magic and such jazz. Also some sword fighting.

Is there a similar anime you could state as an example?

It's like Inuyasha. The setting is a bit different but the swordfighting/magic is about right. I dropped the series, myself, there's too much other good new anime like Michiko e Hatchin and Casshern Sins to bother with it.

Maybe Ragnarok would also serve as a comparison. They have really kept the feeling it's based on an rpg game in the anime.

    Ok new question:

I'm thinking about starting to watch Code Geass, who's the best sub group for this anime?

I watched GG release for the first season and Eclipse for the second season.

There isn't too many good group to choose from for the first season so i think your best bet is with GG.

The 2nd season was more popular so a lot of group subbed it but i think the best groups are GG and Eclipse. I remember a lot of people like Menclave release but i don't think they ever actually completed the series.

I'm looking for another series to watch. I'm only watching Bleach at this point though I did watch Naruto for a while. My anime watching is quite limited.

I like comedy a la School Rumble.

Not into mechs much, though I'm not opposed to it.

    I really liked Trigun.

A cross between Trigun, School Rumble and Grenadier would be awesome.

I'm not really picky. My only requirement is some level of cheesiness. Though straight up comedy (or fighting) is cool too. I'm a sucker for shy guy turns into badass scenarios (which is why I like Bleach). Also think Evil Dead/Army of Darkness style. Any suggestions?

Oh, the only thing I dislike are extended backstories for no reason, but that's like asking for beer without alcohol. There's no real point in even trying.

Try History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. Lots of cheesiness, fighting, comedy and a shy guy (who loves plants) slowly turning into a fighter. It also ends at a good point in the full story, allowing you to either stop watching or continue the manga.

If you like cheesiness, awesomeness and lots of action with a touch of comedy then i recommend Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann wholeheartedly, not to mention that they took the shy guy turn badass into a whole new level. (it's a mech show but i don't think you will mind too much)

Shaman King and Law of Ueki seems like they might fit your Shounen taste.

I recommend One Piece and Hunter X Hunter to anyone who has not seen them (and no the 4kids version of One Piece doesn't count)

    As for comedies

you can't go wrong with Great Teacher Onizuka or Ranma 1/2

Tenchi Muyo OVA and Tenchi GXP are among my favorite comedy anime (both feature the same character and is a harem type story so it might not be your thing) and you can try. Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo are both alternate telling of the original story so if you like the first 2 i mention, you might like those.
