I haven't seen Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei yet, but when you loved FLCL and Haruhi, how can you be worried about it being too wierd?

Anyone could recommend me an anime like Azumanga Daioh? Pure comedy.

    <3 Tessa-chan! <3 Lucifus! ....chotto mate.

Lucky Star, Excel Saga and Pani Poni Dash are reference shows that are all comedy. The exact same vein as Azumanga.

2x2 Shinobuden is all stupid jokes and perverted comments. Quite funny.

There's some drama in Mahoraba, but it's mostly multiple personality disorder comedy and drunken, worthless apartment neighbors.

Galaxy Angel You don't even really need to thing about anything in this franchise. A very light comedy series.

Ebichu the Housekeeping Hamster. Very perverted (very bad art masking hentai with out of frame shots), but hands down the funniest anime series I've ever seen. The trademark joke: "What does spring make you think of? Chestnuts (kuri) and Squirrels (risu) . Put them together and what do you get?" ( 'and' in Japanese is 'to' ) [puns hidden]

Try out Potemayo. I feel that it has similar comedy style to azumanga, but has weird cutesy characters running around.

    Anime Recommendation and Suggestion Query

If there is one kind of horrible waste of a thread that especially irks the staff, it is THIS kind.

First, there is already a thread for queries such as this, which your post has been merged with. This is so there's one concentrated place to inquire instead of a bunch of people spamming the place.

I strongly advise you to read the rules before posting again.
    Warned.

Hey I was wondering if someone could tell me what show this is, it was about a girl that traveled around with 2 guns, she had big boobs and went on like a journey I guess, I wanna download those episodes again. Thanks

Hi, I'm here to get some advice on what are the good anime series that are worth buying the DVDs (preferably those that have complete releases available). Reason being, due to various different circumstances, I'm no longer downloading anime and so I'm trying to find new series to watch on DVDs. Something like that.

I currently own GITS, Samurai Champloo and Otogizoshi (although I don't really think this is very nice, bought it on a whim without knowing anything about the storyline). Intend to buy Nodame and Code Gaess once they are licensed and out (god knows how long that will take), since the reviews on them are excellent.

It's going to be tough paying for something I've never watched before, so will need you guys' help here. Many thanks in advance! ^^

If you own Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop is a must. The two series were often compared, and the dub on Bebop is phenomenal, even better than the original Japanese track. I snapped up the Black Lagoon special edition dvds for a similar reason, the dub is very well done (excessive cursing and better use of the mangled American expressions in the Japanese).

I mostly only buy series I really love, or are old enough that you can't find anywhere else. Iria, Sorcerer Hunters, Nadesico, Makoto Shinkai films, etc. Your situation isn't really the same, since I use the fansubs as the sole determinant of whether the series is worth committing up to $200 on. I can't really tell you what to buy, since you shouldn't really put money into something you may hate. However, we all make mistakes when buying anime, and I've got more than my own share of Volumes 1 and 2 of series I never intend to buy the rest of.

Unfortunately, a lot of the really great review sites are gone. In my dvd buying days, before I found fansubs, I relied almost entirely on scifi.com's Anime Channel. It was taken out when they revamped their site years ago, but it had some excellent unbiased reviews on both subtitles and dub versions separately (yes, this was also the time period of VHS anime).

Though AnimeNewsNetwork is one of the most prominent site for Region 1 anime dvds, I really can't find them reliable anymore. Their method of reviewing dvds as stand alone volumes sickens me. A series shouldn't be judged solely by 3-5 episodes. They often just randomly review a release, even if it's in the middle of a series they've never reviewed before. They herald Chevalier D'eon as if it's one of the greatest series ever made, though in truth it lost momentum dramatically towards the end of the series. They've been accused in their own forums as being paid off for it (since they had an enormous ad for it as part of their site for a few months).

Rather, try www.animeondvd.com. They're considered a good site (one I can not say I've used too extensively). Generally unbiased, they give very in depth reviews of each release on a series (including the functionality of the dvd in terms of menus). You have to browse through what they have. Coupled with a site like AniDB, that has more precision than an A through F scale of grading the substance of a series, you can get a good idea of whether it is worth watching, much less purchasing.

You'll have to do with those two sites and similar ones what I had to do on scifi.com. Read a ton of reviews from multiple sources, the negative ones, the blatantly biased ones, and filter through to see if you really want to spend hard earned cash on a series you may or may not like.

EDIT: Anime-Planet is another one to try. Fewer dvd-specific reviews, but they're pretty comprehensive with them as well.

On a side note, I really liked the first 14 (give or take an eps) episodes of Otogizoshi. The Heian arc is some of the best produced stylized anime I've seen. The present-day arc is utterly forgettable, and brings the rest of the series down.

The Singaporean police knocking at your door, yallo?

Anyways, I think you'd like Black Lagoon if you haven't watched it already.
    Pumpkin Scissors was cool series.
Death Note, depending on how they release it (heard they were doing DVDs with English dub only).
    Black Blood Brothers
    Coyote Ragtime Show

I m a fan of animes with good fighting scenes and mechas

i like Full metal panic TSR very(!) much because it is well animated and the last 4 episodes were simply awesome
the humour and "love-story" is very good too but what is most important to me is the animation... i dont like it when movements are repeated like in Gundamn Seed Destiny.

i ve alrdy watched Burst Angel (here again the last ~5 episodes were great), NGE and Gundam Seed destiny (after seeing the first 10 episode it got boring since it was allways the same movement with different weapons or mechas.)

but... are there any other animes out there which could interest me? to be honest it doesn't really have to include mechas but i like it when the main protagonist is actually a badass and underestimated (maybe like in Kaze no Stigma or even Naruto? well badass doesn't really fit in there but ..well...)

so as a summary: are they any other animes out there like Full Metal Panic! TSR ? (good animation and action(very important)/mechas(if possible)/love-story/funny/badass(make that cool)protagonist)

    sry 4 my bad english-skills :P

Code Geass and Eureka seveN are just what you need. Might also want to try out Sousei no Aquarion.

Bud's post nearly made me cry. Anyway, I'm still downloading the non-licensed shows as the court cases are yet to be settled anytime soon, but I've refrained from Bleach and other high profile series. And yallo, I've got some of the recently concluded shows such as Death Note & Claymore archived on DVD, so feel free to get them from me.

So now that Kenichi is over, I'm looking for an anime to keep me from going mad from boredom.
These are the animes I already saw and Enjoyed:

(I may have forgot a couple of animes..)
    Removed Spoiler
Well shit, sorry about the Spoiler, Munsu, I didn't thought there was still someone out there who didn't knew the story of Death Note..

So, may I ask which anime would any of you recommend me?
    It can be,
On going (Episode still airing in japan)
Recent (Not airing anymore and fully subbed, less than 1 year old)
    Animes from 2-3 years back.

You seem to like shounen, so why not watch the best Hunter X Hunter!

Also you like anime with swords so try the below:

    Berserk
    Claymore
    Rurouni Kenshin
    Basilisk

Power without perception is virtually useless!

This one is a tough one to get one's head around. The simplistic shonen formula series are there, but you also liked Ai Baby. I'll get to that in a minute. Lucky Star, Azumanga, and Ouran makes me think of a few.

Seto no Hanayome (just ended), Mahoraba (a few years ago), Nodame Cantabile (two seasons back), and Honey and Clover (seasons 1 and 2). The art in Nodame and H&C takes some getting used to, but the second two are right up Ouran's alley (without the yaoi parody), and Seto no Hanayome is really crazy. Mahoraba is more on the heartwarming side, but it's still an "eccentric side characters" series.

First thing to pop into my head thinking of Ai Baby, AIR, and Kanon is Bokura ga Ita. A very realistic approach to a romance series. Next is Asatte no Houkou More of a fantasy element to it, which fits well with AIR and Kanon. Then I've got to say ARIA. A slice of life vein that gave me an even more tranquil feeling that Ai Baby gives off.

You suggested Fate/Stay and FMA, so I'll reply with Chrono Crusade. A slightly older series, one I think a lot of people newer to anime haven't seen, but definitely should. You've been around a while, but a lot of people forget about it.

These others don't fit quite so well, but I'll just throw them out. Try Suzuka (bear with it, she is a bitch), Paradise Kiss (I'd suggest Nana, but this is much shorter), Kamichu!, and Uta-kata (if you like Asatte no Houkou).

I see no Hunter X Hunter (final OVA was 3 years ago), you're missing out.

    Kurau Phantom Memory
    Monster
    Kekkaishi
    Black Lagoon
    Pumpkin Scissors
    Shakugan no Shana
    Shura no Toki
    Eureka seveN
    Seirei no Moribito
    Gurren Lagann
    Darker than Black
    Samurai 7
    Samurai Champloo

    That should be plenty.

Alright, thanks guys, I will look into that. (There's got to be at least 1 in which I get interested in..)
    I decided to get these:
    Claymore
    Seto no Hanayome
    Kekkaishi
    Chrono Crusade
    Black Lagoon
    Basilisk

    I wanted these too:
    Gurren Lagann
    Kamichu!
    Monster
    Darker than Black

But there was either not enough seed, or simply imposible to find a good tracker that work.

Darker than Black: just go to tokyotosho and type "sudo"

Gurren Lagann: there should be plenty of working links in tokyotosho
