Besides, it was my understanding that doujutsu meant 'eye technique". I believe kakashi mentions it during team 7's first mission, when they encounter the 2 mist nin hiding in the puddle.

I think we should drop the Byakuugan/Sharingan dispute. It always comes down to individual ability. Itachi would still be a genius and a badass without Sharingan. The point is to make do with what you have. Accent your strengths to counterbalance your weaknesses. That sort of thing.

So when Hinata and Neji say 'Byakugan' and veins pop out around their eyes and their vision expands to be telescopic and panoramic you don't consider that an eye technique.

Also, In reference to your post about expert Sharingan users being better than expert Byakugan users, we've only really seen Neji fight a serious life threatening battle, we've never seen his uncle face an opponent that would make him push his Byakugan to the limit. There's no way to know how much more he might be able to do or if the Byakugan has deep secrets of its own and knowing Kishi we will probably never find out. However, there has to be a reason the Hyuuga's are considered nobility while the Uchiha's were generally just highly respected civil servants.

EDIT: Nothing has been revealed so far that can distinguish a shadow clone from an original since shadow clones are living physical bodies and the only difference between them and the original is that they disintegrate upon being struck. But I I wouldn't put it past Kishi to give the Rin'negan the ability to tell them apart somehow.
