    Ultimate Survivor Kaiji

    First episode released by Triad:
    http://a.scarywater.net/triad/%5BTri...01.mkv.torrent

Don't know what it is, looking for info on it right now. From what I've read around it has to do with compulsive gambler.

It's from the same mangaka of Akagi.

Itou Kaiji is a bum who steals car emblems and slashes tires on what seems to be a regular basis. This routine changes one day when he is paid a visit by a man in a trench-coat. Once the two get talking, it seems that the visitor (Calling himself Endou) is a debt collector. The reason for his visit is an unpaid loan which kaiji had previously co-signed for a work-mate (Furuhata Takeshi). The original loan was 30000 yen and once Takeshi had disappeared, the loan then fell on Kaiji.

Kaiji is then told of a way to clear the interest compounded debt (which stood at 3,850,000 yen), which involved getting on a boat with others in his position. Once on the boat the debtors would then have to gamble with loaned money, which would end with a few winning, and others getting into deeper debt and having to work to pay of their debts. After some coercing kaiji accepts a position on the boat, in order to clear himself and make a bit of money as well...

Yeah the art is so unique it's kinda obvious. Triad's website says it's like Akagi, without the Mahjong and the main character's not a badass. I'll give it a try.

Edit: Watched the first episode, and it looks to be really interesting. I'm a fan of his art, it just feels so unique and a sense of sublime or mystery.

Just watched the first episode, and it's very interesting so far. Basically this bum that's full of debt it's given a chance to get on a cruise were he'll play to try and rid himself from all his debt. Of course, this is no normal cruise and that's were the fun starts.

i'll stick with this. I was wondering what kind of gambling games they would do, because there aren't alot of anime viewers who would know all the different types of games... So I wasn't too surprised when then game showed up as a very simple, albeit modified, one.

There's no way they just send them to one or two years of hard labor if they borrow that kind of money...

I like the yakuza in this show; ruthless and cunning. I also like that Kaiji is pretty much a regular guy. The art style doesn't bother me, although sometimes i just have to laugh at a person's nose... And, yeah, didn't look to be any females on the ship at all. Sausagefest anime.... well, that's what the scene around gambling usually is... especially when it's a rabble like this...

Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".

I really can't imagine a female character with their art.. And a unique Jan Ken to start the competition. I wonder what will they come up next.

Good episode. That scam was really obvious, I'd feel quite bad about falling for that too. And I love the soundtrack already. I was hoping it would be as good a soundtrack as Akagi had.

Impressive, I never thought I'd like the show from the animation but the second episode hooked me.

The ending left me wanted more. So pissed I gotta wait.

If you're liking this series, you should check out Akagi... from the few that gave the show a chance, I think all of us liked it.

If anyones watching. - Kaiji 3 Triad

And Akagi is awesome. Getting kinda repetitive after the first half though. And the distinct lack of females is kinda of a disappointment.

I, too, started Akagi, and its awsome.
But...can someone explain the rules of Mahjong? The anime is too fast to understand it as a complete newbie like i am.
Its great and awsome, but with udnerstanding the game it should be even more awsome.

And now im off watching Kaiji.

Yeah, it would be good if you actually discussed Akagi on the Akagi thread.

Well 4 episodes in and I'm starting to find this show pretty lacking. It just seems that the way the story is being told is WAY to slow and I have a bad feeling this is going to end up like the first part of the chuunin exam. Something along the lines of the real goal was to survive the game and those that win or lose by the rules stated are the ones who are actually the real losers in this game. I mean its WAY to easy to just get out with your 3 stars and starting money so thats the most likely twist I can see for the end of this drawn out process.

I'll give this a few more episodes but I'm still not all that inspired by it at this point.
