well, im trying to burn a music cd for my car to play but the only things i have are blank dvds and when i try to burn it with some ghetto program that came with my laptop it says i can only use cd roms. is it possible to burn on dvds?

Yes, it's possible to burn on DVDs, other durning soft will do it.
A google with DVD burning Freeware may help
Now there's a hidden question: will your built-in car player be able to read DVDs. And if it does, what kind of DVDs.
All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.
