    there's a river of difference.

Goku was never 'destined' to anything, it was a strong point of the anime plot (god knows there weren't many of them), nothing happened without a 'known' reason.

baba's prediction were hardly about the future, she basically told goku where to do, she never said 'OMG! this kid is the kid of destiny and he will save us all!'

the trailer says "the prophecy" and I assume it refers to someone beating evil kin piccolo.
the anime had it quite reasonable (shame on you, making me say reason and dragon ball in the same sentence) - Pilaf finds the damn jar and releases Piccolo, Tien (I think it was Tien) tries to seal Piccolo back in the jar, but fails and breaks the jar instead, so Goku has to defeat Piccolo instead.

back to trailer bashing - it feels like a mix up of tomb-raider movie and rush hour. and how the hell did Yamcha get a bigger part than Krillin? (who didn't even appear in the trailer!)

sig made by Itachi-y2k5, thanks, dude!
Currently Watching: probably a show directed at 9 years old girls, lets be honest.

You know the important distinction between Batman and me? Batman is fictional. In real life, there isn't always an alternative.

The trailer mentions "prophecy" without any context at all. That you're assuming a ton of things of what this "prophecy" reffers to and what not is your problem. Anyways, nothing wrong with there being prophecies around when the anime has a fortuneteller.

I see, so I need to wait to hear a plot synopsis\script\see the damn movie before I get to cal Shannigans? that sucks.

Baba's peak of 'powers' was making a magical t.v that breaks during half time. she never had any 'fortunetelling' that meets the amount of 'prophecy'.

(also, it ain't a prophecy if a living human made it)

See, the prophecy doesn't have to be about someone beating Piccolo. The prophecy could simply be about Piccolo's arrival and his destructiveness, etc. The prophecy could be talking about someone using the Dragon balls for whatver reason. The prophecy could be about me taking a shit tomorrow. But yes, you should wait to see in what context the word prophecy is used and towards what. Taking exception to a word is simply ridiculous.

(also, it ain't a prophecy if a living human made it)
That's a load of crap. Again, it was the anime itself that has prophecies, that the movie has one doesn't mean anything since they exist in the Dragonball world. How they're using this "prophecy" device is what is important, not wether there is one or not.

we're just arguing about semantics now.
(which is fairly retarded, since I think you know what I mean already).

we have a different story definniation of about using the term 'prophecy'.

I think that the 'prophecy' the trailer mentions is one thing, and I don't like that thing.

anyways. I'm DBZ, and I don't approve of Piccolo being white.

I'm not arguing semantics at all, you're the one who brought it up. I'm just saying that you're bunching up your panties because of something that you are ASSUMING, not because of something that IS. It would be one thing if we knew for a fact what the prophecy was about or what it reffers to. It's another thing to take exception to something just because a freaking word was used in a nonsensical fragment of a sentence.

So if I'm correct, you're actually unhappy because of what you're assuming is the case and not because there's a prophecy. If, you're actually unhappy because there's an actual prophecy in the film (regardless of what it is), then I call bs on that since as I said before, prophecies exist in the world of Dragonball.

Hey, I'd probably wouldn't like if the movie did what you're assuming. But fact is that it's completely baseless. Doesn't make sense to me to take issues with it at this point.

I don't need to put a damn 'in my opinion' before every post I make.

I'm assuming that saying 'prophecy' in the trailer means something very specific (based on my prior knowledge from other films and story telling methods), which I oppose to.

Also. I think that placing the word in the trailer, suggests that the entire concept of prophecies and 'magical' prediction of the future, will have a bigger role in the story than it had in the original story. and I was very pleased with the original story being fairly neatly tied (within it's own limitations) without resorting to the prophecy (prophecy, in a very narrow definniation of the word) device.
so yes, my assumption about the prophecy being one thing is more problematic than the actual existence of the prophecy. but, if the prophecy wasn't something 'big' and was a 'dog gets fleas on sunday' type prophecy, it wouldn't have gotten such 'treatment' in the trailer.

seriously. bud, this isn't a 'rip through a internet message and find inconsistent arguments' class, leave that to the Naruto thread.

I guess all I needed to say was that you're full of shit, and leave it at that. That would've been much easier. I guess that's all we'll need to hear of this issue. Let's move on.

Oh, by the way did you see a car in the movie? Holly shit, the trailer sucked because a car being in the movie means that they'll bore us to death with a 30 minute car chase through numerous narrow streets. My extensive experience of story telling methods tells me this, and I'm quite certain this will be the case because a car was shown in the trailer (a very specific one, a yellow one).

But as I said, this is the end of this. Don't bother replying, don't want to go more off-topic.

Lol arguments are funny. Anyways yeah it seems like there will be lots car action (since they can't fly yet), including cars exploding for cinematic effect. Even though I have not seen the movie doesn't it seem a bit..... cheap? I think Steven Speilberg should have done it.

Edit: Oh yeah youtube took off that trailer. You can see the full one with the site you guys mentioned earlier

The martial arts looks _very_ cheesy and wire-fuiy, and sadly, the trailer met my somewhat low expectations. It does look a bit darker toned than I expected, which I think will be a plus. The graphics is way better than I expected from those spoiler pics though. Including the costumes, except Mai looks like she is wearing a wig. Hopefully there are more plusses than this in the actual movie?

I just hope they don't pull Kamehameha's out of Goku's ass without learning it from Roshi first, it'd destroy the plot(lol) continuity.

Well, I don't really care about Roshi teaching him or not... I at the least hope that Goku sees Roshi doing it first. Didn't Goku learn how to do it by himself after watching Roshi doing it once?

    episode nine of Dragon Ball.

Roshi doesn't teach the kemehameha to anyone. they just learn it off screen (besides goku, who tries it on screen), the only person who was taught an energy attack is maybe Gohan, by Piccolo.

Er, yeah that's what I meant. I guess the meaning got a little skewed in that sentence.

My thoughts exactly, except for the darker tone. The trailer makes this movie look like any other wire-fu martial arts movie. If people don't already know about DBZ, they'll have no more incentive to see this movie than they would a Power Rangers movie.

I hope they add the comedy and silliness that made the anime so likable, like a perverted Master Roshi and a loser Yamcha and a bitchy Bulma. And how will they handle the animal-folk, like Puar and Oolong?

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

If they really include Puar and Oolong, they're going to have a dog as the president.

    doesn't compute.
he became president (prime minister, actually, methinks) only at dragon ball Z, during the time of the movie (the coming of Piccolo), he was merely the general (minister of defense), under the king (who was also a dog).

My first thoughts when I saw the trailer were: "This looks like National Treasure 3".

Then my friend saw it and said "It seems kind of like another Mummy sequel".

Basically the consensus is that it looks pretty bland and ordinary. From the trailer, it seems as if it's lost some of its very essence, and will become just another forgettable action movie.

<@Terra> he told me this, "man actually meeting terra is so fucking big", and he started crying. Then he bought me hot dogs
