The phrase "take on" has various meanings in different contexts, if you read his post carefully you would see that he meant "hire" someone instead of fighting someone.

At least that's how I understood it.

I've been waiting for this for a long time. Seems that Oda has long implied the black beard was going to become one of the heavy hitters of the one piece universe but now we actually get to see him in action.

And man does he have one of the more badass fruit powers. Hopefully next chapter will continue the fight as opposed to flashing over to the far less interesting journey to merman island.

I've been wondering for a while if there even was a darkness fruit...i wonder what he can do with it...or how you even cant defeat something like that. I mean, would a light fruit be like dazzler from the x-men??

Yup. It's pretty ambigious what darkness can do. Probably everything turns dark and he'll run behind you and poke you with his knife.

As far as I know the only thing that can beat someting like darkness is light, or something that can produce enough light....like fire.

If Ace can produce enough heat to the point it starts to turn white then he can probably beat him, but when you get into such a grey area like "darkness" it's still pretty hard.

I'm really curious about this DF book. How are they able to determine what a fruit looks like and what power it contains if only one exists and they have never eaten it or found it for that matter? I can understand maybe knowing the shape if the fruit has been uncovered and being traded here and there between people but that still doesn't explain how they know what power it holds.

@Knives: I think it can go either way. Blackbeard just might be able to nullify light with his darkness.

I was always wondering when it'd come to be a darkness and a light fruit. Well now Blackbeard has the Darkness fruit (an ability which i say can go any way since darkness can imply shadows, it can imply night, it consumes anything) it's a pretty vague power.

Maybe Whitebeard has the light fruit? Blackbeard said he was searching for the Darkness fruit and apparently seems bent on killing Whitebeard nomatter what, so maybe the reason he was looking for the Dark Fruit was to be able to fight whitebeard? I think we have to see next chapter to predict more though, the Dark Fruit does seem a little vague...

Deblas I was wondering the same think Maybe its Luffy's mom/grandma? Or great grandpa?
