updating issues

I'm pretty sure i should format my hard drive, as my computer is acting strange, and i can't install any windows updates, but i need to save all of my media files first. Is there a way that i can fix the update problem until i get a hard drive to save all my stuff?

how is it failing? What's showing up in event viewer? how else is it acting strange?

Sorry, but in all the logs, this is the only thing thats come up pertaining to updates; i looked through all the logs, and there's no mention of the updates failing to install
