    Game: Rock Band

A bunch of news released today from E3 warrants an official thread for this game!

Basically for anyone who enjoys/has played the Guitar Hero games, this will be like Guitar Hero PLUS. Bunch of new awesome songs - most of which are original recordings, 4 different instruments, online play, and thousands of songs available for download (including full albums - the first of which will be by The Who, my favorite band, and later Metallica). This is pretty much going to be the best game of its genre. I can't wait.

I think I'm most excited by the song list, and also the new peripherals. The game is backwards compatible with all the other GH guitars, but the Fender Strat they've got lined up for this game looks beautiful. The drum kit will also be a lot of fun to play around on, and is apparently a halfway decent substitute for playing the real drums. The only drawback I can think of is that playing bass in this game will probably not be as fun as it is in real life.

Nice, I heard about this too. I'm looking forward to it, since GH2 on Xbox 360 was awesome, and still is. Good to hear it's compatible with other GH guitars, so I don't have to buy a new one. Can't wait to go crazy, and maybe even smash my guitar to the amazing list of new songs.

It looks like buying the Strat they've designed will be more than worth it. It's got an extra 5 buttons nearer the body of the guitar, to make the Hammer-ons and Pull-offs easier, and a switch (based on the switch that changes the pickups used on a real fender) that changes the sound of the notes you play. I'm definitely going to put the money down for it.

Pictures of the guitar and drums:

^^^^ the drums also have a kick pedal for the bass, not pictured here

Heh, as far as smashing your guitar, the fact that Won't Get Fooled Again is in the game will make that deliciously appropriate .

Wow, nice pics. I guess I can't be a cheap ass, must go all out, buy both the new guitar and drums!

Ah, haven't heard that song in awhile. Yup, I guess I'll have to smash my old guitar (since I will get the new one now) sometime during that song.

Well the game has been out for a little over a month now, I just got it yesterday for the PS3. If anyone else has it on the ps3 and wants to jam on online, my user name is Rekeco.

    See you guys on!

It doesn't get relesed here in sweden until next year :/

I'm surprised that every person in the us doesn't own this game. The drums alone would warrant the $170.

4 instruments... So like.... 4 players?1?1?! That's going to own!

Yeah it's four players, and if you don't have four people, you can fill those slots up with people online or just play as is.

Only problem is a lot of PS3 users only have 3 because Activision, people who brought you Guitar Hero 3, don't want Harmonix, people who brought you Rock Band, to release a patch that would allow the GH3 guitar to work for Rock Band unless Harmonix pays them royalties on every sale.

In other words, Activision is being shady .... hella shady.

So is anybody actually playing this? I just got it about a month ago and its pretty great. I have friends over daily and currently playing drums on hard.

I play it for a little while every week, I also have been playing the drums lately...I usually sail through the songs on expert on guitar, but drums on expert is some tricky shit... I'm just not coordinated enough yet, I suppose. But it is doing a pretty good job of making me want to buy a real drumset to learn to play.
