    Umisho

    Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho

"Based on the shounen manga by Hattori Mitsuru, serialised in Weekly Shounen Magazine.

Kaname Okimura, a student of Prefectoral Umineko Shougyou High ("Umisho" for short), joined the school`s swimming club in order to learn how to swim, but the club is filled with weirdos, let alone teach him swimming. Then, a sunny, happy-go-lucky girl named Amuro Ninagawa who was transferred from Okinawa joined the club. Her extraordinary underwater speed and unorthodox swimming style (plus her personal habit of nude swimming -- a powerful magnet to teenage boys) surprised every club member, especially Okimura, because she reminds him a mermaid-like creature he saw only once in his early childhood.

Genre: Comedy, Sports, School Life, fanservice (ok, I added the last, but it belongs here)

Well, it was basically one big fanservice fest, and in addition it had some fanservice, comedy, and apparently it may end up containing serious swimming sports, but that remains to be seen, I suppose. I'll probably try to keep watching this for a while even if the first episode didn't really present anything that extraordinary (aside from not so ordinary characters). Oh, did I mention it had fanservice?

WTF!! Fanservice... I guess you haven't it enough so i'll say it again..FANservice.. Its a bit annoying though, kinda like Tenjou Tenge, when you think that aya or maya's boobs will pop out but will.. The art for me is great.. animation is good too,.. I just hope it gets better with the story.. and ofcourse, ahem.. the fanservice...

    [Ayu] - Umisho 02
    [Ayu] - Umisho 03

Decidedly overt fanservice aside (which I do enjoy), I'm a fan of Hattori Mitsuru's "less is more" style of plot. The plot is nearly identical to his manga about the long jump, but it doesn't stop Umisho from being a great series in it's own right.

Amuro is so damn innocently naive and pure-hearted, it's easy to get swept up into the feel of this series. It's a lot like Aria was to me. By the end of the episode, you realize you were smiling most of the time, and not even necessarily from the fanservice. Toss in the overly serious Onizuka-sempai, the over-sexed bombshell that is Shizuoka ("I wouldn't mind if the opposite sex was..."), a moron like the captain, and Makio, the token loli. That's a recipe for a successfully worthless series that has a calming atmosphere that makes you laugh.

Hes so, well, black, for the lack of a better term (well thats not true, there is a better term, but i wont use it here)" Assassin

Not sure what you meant by oversexed, but she seems to be a closet pervert in her own right, heh.

Yeap she's a pervert alright. In her own unique kind of pervert. I like these types of girls. Innocent on the outside, wild on the inside..

I dont think she is stupid at all. She probably knows what she is doing, but is just innately shameless and weird, thus allowing her to do such antics.

BTW, the string bikini bit was just... yeah.

Just started watching this today. Not sure how old the manga is, but Okimura definitely resembles Kyon. Don't know if that's by design.

Hmm, probably not, since the character personality is just too different. You can only have so many designs for short haired male characters, so I dont think they intentionally copied that one.

I heard a lot of complaints about Karin...err...Maaya. She's not isn't that annoying. She's a pretty typical antagonist character. Primadonna bitch who wants Kaname. Dresses like an oversexed slut, sounds out every syllable of "onegai", etc. She's about as stereotypical as you can get, which is why it works. I can't stand the little pervert kid though. I'm waiting for Orizuka to bash his head in with a bat and drown him in the pool.

I did notice that Maaya never saw Amuro swim down lane the entire episode. She's going to be pissed when she sees how fast she is.

Shizuoka's strange desires never fail to make me smile, or maybe I just really like Yukari Fukui roles lately.

Yeah. I agree. They must have purposefully kept the possible shocking effects of Amuro's swimming skills in reserve for the next episode. After all, Amuro already gave Maaya a shock in this episode with her more voluptuous boobs.

It's been some time since we've seen the sunny poolside of Umisho, the shining water, its glistening beaches, the pleasant swell of...the waves.

Pretty good episode, especially the part when Shizuoka wanted to buy the horn thing.

The rivalry with the other school was pretty funny. Shizuoka falling asleep at the start line, only to make a perfect entry and win by a good margin, was my favorite of the bunch. Worried about, of all things, her precious undergarments.

Amuro staring at the other school's captain the entirety of the race was just strange. The result of the punishment game was just too strange. She didn't even seem to care what happened to her, she just wanted attention one way or the other. Ho ho ho ho ho!
