"outrage over wall erected to obscure the view of a free U2 concert to commemorate the tearing down of the berlin wall"

    I love stories like this.

    Yes, sounds about right.

A psychiatrist goes psycho? Whodathought? Poor bastard survived it though. He'll get pleasant treatment from his army buddies while he recuperates from his gunshot wounds.

What always amazes me is when people in the military (or their family members) protest being sent to war. Guess what, buddy? You signed up to be a pawn. Don't complain when you're sacrificed to the opponent's knight so bishop can take knight.

For God will not permit that we shall know what is to come... those who by some sorcery or by some dream might come to pierce the veil that lies so darkly over all that is before them may serve by just that vision to cause that God should wrench the world from its heading and set it upon another course altogether and then where stands the sorcerer? Where the dreamer and his dream?

There're lots of people in any military that only want to protect their own country, not travel half the world away to fight in some dubious war of dim prospects.

Obviously this man wasn't willing to protect anything but generally speaking.

Yes but with the increasingly globalized world, often you will have to go abroad to protect your home country.

Such is the case with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We must eradicate Joe Qaeda where he roots if we're to be safe from his people in our own lands.

It definitely beats Wars by Proxy, which the Afgans and the Iraqis both know all too well. Sending matériel to supply another country may work in the short term, and look really good for those politicians back home on paper, "We're not endangering our boys [and girls], and we're providing aid to foreign country to defend their own freedom!"

But in the end, as the America learned the hard way a number of times, that kind of behavior really just breeds warlords and corruption. If you want something, legitimate or otherwise, you have to own up to the responsibility and risk your own people.

...and if we (the citizens and the soldiers) don't like where they (the politicians) are sending our men, we can always kick their asses out of office or openly revolt.

Apparently he had needed those sites in order to get in contact with people offering him needed services, like the hologram guy. Still, his measures to shield himself from investigations were so insufficient that I doubt he really believed anybody would seriously try to track him down.

This allegedly means cracking down on digital internet piracy and being banned from your ISP if you are caught downloading pirated content, and obviously gives the government free reign over your privacy. France passed similar legislation a month and a half ago.

I feel like I'm in that episode of South Park that tried to encourage voting, when the candidates to choose from were a douche and a turd sammich.

I'm glad the EU shot it down clearly enough when the French dictator tried to make it a European practice. EU rarely does anything good but sometimes it happens. Doesn't mean our own government wouldn't implement it, though. We have such fools in the cabinet that you can't help but wonder how they manage to tie their shoestrings.

I guess Obama is settling for only one term with actions like this.

lol, that Sam guy loves to use "draconian" in his sentences, doesn't he O_o. at first I thought it was cool when I read it 'cause I've never just seen someone casually drop it in a sentence like that.. but the second time it seems a bit much <.<.. maybe I just don't read enough.

I've been keeping up with this; its really shady. and the worst part is that its being endorsed by multiple governments. However, I really don't see anyway for them to enforce it besides deep packet inspection by ISPs I suppose.

Which the ISPs can't afford to do, and can't enforce anyway without all their customers getting absolutely fed up with terribly degraded service from having to inspect every packet.

Just another case of politicians legislating from their campaign funds (Big Content in this case) and passing laws without know one single fact about the topic and feasibility of their proposals. Or without considering the consequences of a broadly-written bill they passed as a knee-jerk reaction to some current event that caused some form of vocal minority outrage.

In other words, business as usual.

I'm hoping the ISPs have our backs on this one (kills their bottom line), because no one else is allowed to even read the damn thing.

    1million xbox live users banned.

I'm not sure what exactly is being banned, the xbox live account, or the xbox console itself.

The box network ID or some such is also banned. I heard from a guy he had to buy a brand new xbox because they banned his machine because it was modded and he was playing pirated games. He also lost $400 worth of xbox live time.
