Now 99% disease free!
the american government is bailing everything out. buying up major financial institutions and huge companies like, well...
i love how nobody's talking about the US becoming more and more socialist. in good times, government moves like this would be decried as the third coming of communism. but now that people can't afford that third car or a Caribbean vacation, the government can't get involved enough in these things.
stocks rebounded alot yesterday, purely on hope and relief that the government is going to bail everything out. of course, this is going to mean a deficit out the ass (even moreso than usual) and, eventually much higher taxes. can't wait to hear everyone complain about that...
Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".
I thought they rebounded partly because central banks around the world pumped billions upon billions of euros, dollars, pounds, yens and whatever to make sure there is still money available in the market, and it didn't all disappear like so many American banks.Originally Posted by masamuneehs
And as much as those government haters from 50's and their offspring hate all governmental interventions, the primary mission of the (Western) governments is to make sure the citizens of the country can make a more or less happy life for themselves. Some people mistakenly think the role of the government is to disappear, as if that would give the people much better opportunities. Just look at the more miserable parts of Africa or Russia from early 90's to see what you get with no or a weak government.
All those big corporations are run by greedy bastards and as good a job as they usually do, I think these recent happenings demonstrate it doesn't work all the time.
well, it works well for them. the smart greeders knew when to quit, and make good dollar, while the rest of them had to manage with the millions they made last year, by screwing around with the money we gave them. just because the (our) money is gone doesn't mean that they won't receive high bonuses for the past few years of running the economy.

All I gotta say is that the past two days have been quite excellent for my portfolio.

All I gotta say is f*ck yeah man. Let's hope this keeps up. Putting a stop to shorters is an excellent move to prop up the stock market.Originally Posted by Assertn

Lovely hypcorisy, where would the world be without it? I agree with you on this point, though to be honest third world countries have been bearing the brunt of Capitalist self protection far longer than this credit crunch has been around for. And its not just the US, Europe also engages in protectionism, and patronisingly attempt to explain away this double standard by declaring of course there is no such thing as a perfect free market. Which is absolute bollocks when you think at how much third world countries are forced to 'liberalise' their markets in exchange for some miserable commodity quotas.Originally Posted by masamuneehs

33 tanks and their ammunition seized by pirates. I have no clue how this can be possible. You'd think a ship full of legal war material would be somehow guarded. But apparently it's no more so than some ship full of bananas. I almost feel like congratulating the pesky pirates for teaching those fools a lesson. Maybe the pirates will topple the Kenyan government with these tanks and found a pirate state of jolly cutthroats.
Sounds like an inside job to me. Whoever was involved on the Kenyan side decided to double their order by leaking information to some local pirates, then buy them back from the pirates at half the price the Ukrainians were charging, as well as getting a new shipment from the Ukrainians free of charge.

Man Arrested for Threatening Voice Actress Online
Guess after the last few events, they're on their toes for this kind of stuff.
If it's not Isuzu-chan Mii~
How could anyone hate a voice over artist so much? That's really hilarious to imagine they'd become so enraged.
Edit: GO TEXAS!!!
LAREDO, Texas (AP) — A Texas jury acquitted a man accused of killing a boy who broke into his home looking for a snack — a case that sparked outrage in this border city, where many thought the man should not have even been charged.
...
Gonzalez had endured several break-ins at his trailer when the four boys, ranging in age from 11 to 15, broke in. Gonzalez, who was in a nearby building at the time, went into the trailer and confronted the boys with a 16-gauge shotgun. Then he forced the boys, who were unarmed, to their knees, attorneys on both sides say.
The boys say they were begging for forgiveness when Gonzalez hit them with the barrel of the shotgun and kicked them repeatedly. Then, the medical examiner testified, Anguiano was shot in the back at close range. Two mashed Twinkies and some cookies were stuffed in the pockets of his shorts.

<@Terra> he told me this, "man actually meeting terra is so fucking big", and he started crying. Then he bought me hot dogs
Eh, just yesterday a coworker was telling me a case of deadly force against break-ins where a registered sex offender broke into a girl's bedroom completely naked except for a knife and some condoms, and then was promptly strangled to death by the father.Originally Posted by XanBcoo
Could be worse, it could be like some of these other states, where a guy can trip and injure himself while attempting a break-in, and then win in a lawsuit against the homeowners.
Where do you draw the line?
10/4/04 - 8/20/07
where logic dictates. that's fairly simple.
was there a logical for the person to suspect he's about to be physically harmed if he hadn't used deadly force?
the two guys with rubber masks are carrying a gun? shoot them.
four kids with two twinkees? don't shoot.
those are extreme examples, but the line is usually clear.

Well, he must have given enough reasonable doubt, since he says it looks like the kid was lunging at him.
Not defending what was happening, but his house was broken into several times and, frankly, the kids shouldn't have broken into his house. If they didn't, he wouldn't have been able to get off with what happened.
If the kid did look like he was leaning forward and all.. I'm sure the other ones weren't able to tell, and all the jury needed was just enough reasonable doubt.
Over here you can't kill somebody even if he was digging your heart out of your chest with a dull knife. You are told you used excessive force. It's beyond ridiculous. Yet that Texas case was nothing but an execution. Assertn's coworker's story sounds like a legit, proper case, on the other hand.
It mightn't have been the same kids.Originally Posted by Jaitne
But in the Texas case, it's really hard to justify. Part of what supported the decision was that deadly robbery seems to be the case there, so it was reasonable for the man to expect a fight for his life against intruders. Given the age of the kids, it is also possible for them to kill him in return. all it takes is one guy to wind him, and another to take the gun.
That said, I'm not 100% for what happened.
