Well it looks like ANN was joking, they've listed up to 200 episodes again, but with a new title for episode 200 and if this title's true, then it is a filler.

Holy crap, these last 2 days have been a see-saw of emotions. First, no fillers! Yay! Then there was a hint this morning about the possibility of a joke...Now, it seems that episode 200 is filler. Sh!t...well let's hope that Edort4 is right and they'll now end at 204. I hope that this get verified sometime soon...filler hell blows!
Currently watching: One Piece, Black Lagoon, Bleach, Death Note, Suzumiya Haruhi,
The 12 Kingdoms, and Soukou no Strain (kinda)

Yukimura raises some good points... I don't know if character development actually happened during the fillers (all I know about Hinata is that she was "naked under a waterfall" or something) but then again, even almost a year and a half after the TV fillers started the manga hasn't gone that far ahead. It'd be interesting if Kishimoto had actually watched the fillers and decided to carry on some of the things that happened, but then again, I doubt it.
And I don't know about that joke...my only source is narutofan.com, and they have posted that the new arc will start on #200.

To date the only thing I've seen that could be considered a development during the fillers was Hinata's new technique, which was created and explained only in the fillers. Now later in the series there might be some situation where Hinata's technique could save the day, but the question is, will she have it. If she does then the fillers will have polluted the original storyline and I'll be quite dejected, but if she doesn't then I'll feel bad that a decent development for Hinata was wasted on the fillers.
Whether it stays or not, it at least achieved one thing: It made the fillers just a little bit better. Hinata was one of the most used filler characters, if I quickly tried to estimate it from my memory alone (which might be a bit fuzzy since we are talking about the not so memorable fillers). And honestly when the series gets back to business with the manga plot, I doubt many of us will be remembering the fillers constantly or comparing things to them. Best to forget them and stick to the greater plot.
I've been watching the show since it aired and since the fillers have started it just get it and put it in storage don't even watch it, someimes I'd jump through to see if it was worth watching and find out it wasn't. So i'm happy to hear the show get back on track.
Sakura learns some medical jutsus.Originally Posted by Yukimura

All I remember is when she learns how to heal a fish and that is from the manga, but thrown in during the fillers instead of #135 where it should have been, IIRC.
At the end of the first filler arc, Sakura goes to see Tsunade and confesses her undying crapiness to her, Tsunade, likely drunk at the time, agrees to take her on as a student.
@ above: Does it count as a spoiler to say that that scene was not filler but actual manga material? I assume there is some slack in the rules, since this thread exists, but Assertn recently implied that anything that would allow someone to deduce events that will occur in the future of the anime are spoilers i.e the preview after every ep.
How could it be a spoiler to verify past events? It's not like the fillers were a totally different series, after all. They may have so little meaning that it wouldn't affect much even if you didn't watch them, but they are still a part of the series.Originally Posted by Yukimura
And anyway, leave it for Assertn or other mods to deduce if it's allowed or not, and react accordingly. They are the enforcers setting the precedents.
What if filler script writters did consult with kishimoto?
Then again, after the "magnetic" ninja case from fillers that option looks rarely possible.
(If i said anything more, it would be a spoiler, if u haven't read the manga, dont try to understand it )
It's too late! My gears are already spinning!
OMG! It's Magneto isn't it! Magneto kicks Naruto's ass doesn't he! AWSOME!~!

While most of the filler is pretty awful (curry of life anyone?) some of it is pretty entertaining, like 197 was fairly good and I imagine the other ones following this storyline will be as well.Originally Posted by mage

The fillers are mostly watchable and enjoyable if you don't mind seeing the characters in situations besides what's in the manga. If you do mind, then tough luck.
more like totally out of character and in situations they would never actually be in.Originally Posted by Animeniax
