The Gift staff mostly consist of the D.C. staff. It's not a rip-off, just a case of human tendecies to derive new ideas from their older successful ideas.
It is similar to Da Capo in following ways:
- Storyline revolves around "magic"
- There's a blonde twin-tail "witch" (although not literally a witch like Sakura)
But that's pretty much it. There are also characters that have same personality traits as Da Capo characters, but like TSR implied, there are many of those kind flowing around. Gift is my favorite bishoujo game. Gift was labeled as a rip-off because it was released later than Da Capo. It is original in its own rights.
But, I was disappointed with the first episode. Animation quality is inferior (nearly as bad as the quality for GTO) to most of other series such as Yoakemae yori Ruriiro na, and Haruhiko (the main character) is a mismatch with his original self from the game.
But I'll be following it nonetheless, seeing how the new characters for the PS2 version of Gift are already making their appearances. It's just too early in the series to make the final judgment I guess. I'll see where the series will go for next several episodes before suggesting this mindlessly.
