I wasn't even aware that there was going to be a HALO movie.

Oh well, I find the storyline and gameplay for the game series just mediocre. I probably wouldnt've seen the movie anyway either... since it could've been another Doom. D:

According to Jackson's rep, he and Microsoft respectfully declined leading to the exit of the studios. Normally the movie would put a project like HALO in significant peril, but because pre-production is being done at Jackson's Weta Workshop, work will continue. Microsoft is currently looking for new partners and is reportedly also in talks with other production partners
So...can anybody speculate how probable it is that Microsoft will find someone else willing to take on this project?

I can't imagine why it was dropped. They've got a guaranteed audience with every XBox owner out there.

<@Terra> he told me this, "man actually meeting terra is so fucking big", and he started crying. Then he bought me hot dogs

Well, Halo didn't have much of a storyline but really, it's not as if videogames movies have much of a storyline either.... I was mostly looking forward to Peter Jackson's special effects, which are always nice. I'm sure some other studio will pick it up sooner or later...

Looks like it still might come out.

Well, there’s lots of stuff going on behind the scenes that we simply can’t talk about, but Microsoft’s official statement on the matter goes something like this:

“We are disappointed that Universal and Fox wanted to significantly renegotiate the financial points of the deal. But the Halo franchise is hugely popular and our goal remains the same - to find a partner that shares our passion and will creatively collaborate with us to best represent the story and spirit of the Halo franchise. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and the rest of the creative team are dedicated to ensuring the Halo movie becomes a reality. We are already in discussions with potential partners who recognize the value of the Halo brand and its appeal to consumers worldwide.”

The reality here at Bungie towers is a feeling of optimism, satisfaction and happiness for reasons we can’t go into. Frankly we’re interested in making the best movie, and it’s possible that a partner who’s more concerned with numbers, might not be the best partner for what’s more vitally a creative process. Suffice it to say that Peter, Neill, Fran and Microsoft are as excited and dedicated as ever and WETA continues the pre-production process. Actually, when you do finally get to see the stuff WETA has already made, you will probably pee a little.

well I doubt that any other studio would wanna pick up a Peter Jackson prodction since all his projects are very expensive and Fox an Universal are usally studios that trow a lot of money at projects so having them backing out is very bad news about the only other studios that spend that much money on movies are Dreamworks wich is kind of a a Weta rival and Sony studios wich I doubt they would be interesed

Well, there's always NewLine, right? Peter Jackson made them rich with Lord of the Rings, perhaps they can be convinced...

...then again, videogames movies are a bigger risk than fantasy epics.

I'm honestly not the one who neg repped you, but that was pretty clearly a run-on sentence. I try not to be a grammar nazi, but that was about six sentences without so much as a comma.

It was a bit childish to neg rep you, but there should be no confusion on the point.

Again, I'm honestly not the one who neg repped you.

Back on topic, I really don't think that Halo had much of a plot. What's more, from a bean-counting movie studio's point of view it's a bad investment. The movie Doom mad no money so logically (in their minds) Halo wouldn't either. The financial failure of Doom couldn't possibly have had anything to do with the shitty writing and the near-abandonement of the source material.
