This show was a pleasent surprise when I watched it, I didn't have high hopes but it was pretty good. Some great comedy and all the different personalities are interesting enough by themselves. Thanks for posting this Zati!

How in the blue hell was that pretty good? Nothing happened in it. It was utterly boring. Ugh... Great comedy? What show were you watching? There was little to no comedy whatsoever in episode one.

I will give this show one more episode, but if its still the same crap, its gonna find it way into "Haku's Home for Crap Anime"

"Chrono is our Religion. In the name of the Chrono, the Zeal, the Trigger and Cross, Amen."

To conclude that nothing happened is simply ridicules. I'll assume you mean there was no fighting, which would still be incorrect. No, there is not an attractively drawn heroine swinging a sword but rather an unseen fight. The conflict takes many forms, a conflict of attitudes, and a conflict of feelings between the two main characters. There is a conflict of personalities and interests between all of the main and supporting characters. There is a depth to the conflict that demands intrigue. Then there is the plot under which all these conflicts come to being. The plot being a device to bring all these conflict to be united under one objective is not the central focus of this story. The first episode being the introduction did a nice job of introducing us to not only the characters and scene but also the conflicts. The resolution of these conflicts is what provides the interest to the viewer to watch.

The humor in the story stems these conflicts of characters,
circumstance and mannerisms. First of all, you have the tentative situations between characters and differing of opinions that stem from the conflict and lead to some slightly humorous situations. The most obvious example would be Kuroda, specifically the scene where she promises to curse others. Secondly, circumstance, the way Mai gets drawn into this whole ghost hunt lends itself to comedy. Finally you have the mannerisms, the more gaudy of the styles, that attempts to so exaggerate the character of certain bodies of people to the extent that it is funny. In this case John Brown fulfills this by inhibiting what we would consider a southern mannerism. Comedy however is subjective so I cannot say that you or others would find the same things humorous.

I just found out that this series is based on a novel by the same author of The Twelve Kingdoms.

I'll give this series a try soon, hopefully it'll be good... of course, I'm not expecting another The Twelve Kingdoms.

This series gets better with progress, the cases become noticable darker each time.
To me this series was great, and i want a second season of it.
The case before the last one was the best one for me, it was also the darkest of them all + it was a 4 ep case, which was good too.

Well I don't know about it getting better with progress as the first 11 episodes seemed to alternate between good and bad stories. The second half was much better, my favorite being File #5 Silent Christmas as it was just so cruel. I kept thinking "No way are they going to end it like that" and they did, poor kid. Overall it indeed was a good watch, even with it's flaws at times.

Well one year after declaring that I was going to start watching this series, I finally did. I enjoyed it quite a bit, though I thought there were a couple of boring stories. Thankfully those were short ones. I didn't like the Christmas one, it was boring, but man that final episode of that arc and how they showed how the kid died was messed up.

I was dissapointed a bit in that the characters rarely did anything productive and the spirits usually sucked. I was expecting a bit more of how the last arc went down throughout the series, now that was a great one in my opinion. Plenty of mystery and action.

Anyways, I hope this gets another season... any of you heard anything of that sort?

With that said, the series apparently ended on volume 9 of the manga and it is currently up to volume 11 in Japan.

Glad you enjoyed it, seeing how this was a pretty dissed series.
But if the series ended at volume 9, then i dont think we will see a season 2 until at least volume 18 or so, or they would have to introduce filler material, which could be really bad for the series ofcourse.
So if there is a season 2, we would have to wait quite awhile for it.

You're completely right, hope they have plans for it though.
