I think an enormous chunk of the storyline was revealed during Alice's discussion with Leonir about her little brother (who we just heard about for the first time). Since Alice was the successor, anyone who married her would become the head of the family, one of the 13 families, and gain all the power that that titles holds. I've always thought the Leonir was a member of the Silver Wheel, even before the organization was ever named, and his confusion over Alice's opinion only added to my suspicions. I can almost see the Silver Wheel going after Alice's little brother to ensure that she remains head of the family. What better way for an evil organization to gain ultimate power but take over one of the most noble families?

It was nice to see that Schultz understands that Alice most enjoys using her political power and position to help the people, and deserve the title of "Noble." Alice sees herself as a warrior to protect the country and it's people, and at least one of her fiances understands that.

Her abusive sisters, as always, amusing.

I still can't see anything romantic between those two. It just doesn't seem fitting. I think Alice is just an important person for Orland, but not really in a (mature) romantic way. More like an idol or angel who gave a meaning to Orland's life, and showed that despite being a soldier he can actually help people. During the war he was a mindless killing machine with the blue lantern, and I don't think he really likes that state and feeling.

Yeah, I've been thinking about the same thing. However, I hope he's not simply after the noble name and position. While him being a villain would indeed be cool, I would prefer a humane villain and not some cliche machine. Maybe a villain who really fell in love with Alice.

I think his original intentions may have been to simply take over the family for the Silver Wheel (assuming he is in fact, part of them), but especially after her words to him about why she still tries so hard, I think he may in fact be genuinely in love with her as well.

Like was mentioned in the episode, Orland probably needs Alice more, and feels more for her than just being in love, precisely because of what you mentioned above. It probably wont develop into anything convrete, since the series is probably going to be cut short, but at least they hinted on it, with Orlands reaction, and Alice turning to him before going to the ball.

Maybe not genuinely in love, but genuinely impressed. He is most probably evil anyway.

I kind of like the whole mutual trust and respect thing between Alice and Orland, and I don't really want them to turn it into a romantic thing. Not every relationship between and a man and a woman needs to be about that, and it's kind of nice to have a break from all the harem/romantic comedies out there. Alice saves Orland from being just another unemployed bum, and he fights for her, and does a decent job of it too. That's enough.

And yeah, Leonir is pretty obviously a bad guy. It's hard to tell exactly what he wants to get out of marrying Alice. If it's just the political power than he could certainly arrange some sort of "accident" for her little brother. But then again he might actually like her and wants to recruit her for his side. Or maybe both.

I'm actually kind of cheering for the blond dufus. He's a dufus, sure, but he seems to genuinely care for her and would probably not mind if she wanted to pursue her ideals and continue her work at the military.

My romance theory finally has some solid evidence. (I told you so).

I watched several eps together, so I hadn't commented before.
Thank god the 'new' ending was a one time only... is was horrible...

Anyway... I hope Machs or Oreld brought Alice's weapon for next ep.

    true...

on another note, anyone else was laughing as hard as me at the marquis predicament?

I never noticed how buff Alice looks before now, I guess it comes from swinging that death blade around all the time but she's got some serious shoulders, very nice...and another reason she's one scary chick. I wonder what they Marquis will do in response, I'm guessing a goon shield or something along those lines.

Nice episode but mostly was putting more gunpowder in the barrel. Now we need little more and a fuse and we are ready to sit on it and lit it up.

I wish Orland hand't got hit in the head with the shovel a couple of episodes ago. Apparently something broke in his brain, turning him into a total chicken. It's painful to watch, remembering how he used to be a badass dude who walked alone to face tanks and automatic weapons. Now he can't do anything but run and whine. Like wtf...

I agree, there's something going on and it's pissing me off... Hurry up and turn on the blue latern damn it. I have a feeling we might be getting a second season or something, I think this arc is going to extend a couple more episodes, and this arc surely doesn't involve the Silver Wheel.

The problem is that the people he's trying to protect hate him and are trying to kill him. He's obligated to defend himself (and it's inbred into him through the lantern).

However, I thought they covered this during the Flamethrower arc, and the drill train episode, and the blizzard and bandits episode. He should be over defending himself from people he's trying to protect.

How far he's wussed out all of a sudden just seems really off, considering the situations he's already been in involving the common people.

Prediction though, the flail guy said threaten people with more primitive forms of pain, and it's more effective. Hmm, I wonder what kind of feeling the lantern gives off? The lowest base, the most primitive. The unrelenting, inevitable, basic threat of death I'll bet.

I don't know what's going on but the amount of cowardice demonstrated by Orlan(or Oreld, i get them mixed up) was mind boggling. He must know that he can't do anything without the lantern by now, regardless of whether he wants to or not. If he wants to keep being useful he needs to not be his normal self, because his normal self is a cowardly wimp searching for redemption...those types of people don't belong in combat situations.

Alice was looking on task, though she still seems to be acting a bit naive, thinking that fighting a duel will somehow appease the peasants. Little-Or's comments were very helpful, since I wasn't sure if they mob would buy it in their hearts or not, I'm guessing in the end Alice will win, and somehow calm the crowd down, but I'm hoping that somehow they go crazy and at least kill the sniveling guy.

Good episode. A little better than previous. But I wish they stopped dragging this arc already... dunno if this is a 24 or 26 ep series... but I don't see Alice meeting the Silver Wheel at this rate...

And I really hope she doesn't... If that doesn't occur, that means that they are probably planning on a sequel or a second season. Think about it, if they would've really wanted to finish the story this season, they would've pitted Section 3 against the Silver Wheel by now and arrive at some sort of conclusion. Yet, the anime has shown no signs of rushing the story, not even in these final episodes, and it's apparently 24 episodes long... at least that was anidb shows.

Well I do hope they do have plans for a 2nd season. At the rate the series advanced, they really need one. Several episodes on the middle were just plain painful... I haven't searched this series manga, but I guess it must not be that long so they dragged the series like this. I hope the final episode has some announcment like "season 2 next autumn" like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle did on its time.
