The general consensus is that they used a commerical version of Maya.

I know the effect can be duplicated with a collection of other programs as well, but Maya does it all in one program suite.

    Autodesk Maya homepage

edit: more appropriate to call Maya a program suite.

    Autodesk Maya Unlimited 8: $6,999.00

Pretty low price if they made Advent Children with this.

Well, once you start tacking on the number of people who worked on it times the number of individual hours put into this whole thing, I would imagine it got pretty expensive pretty quickly

Somehow I doubt your computer meets the requirements to run that program.

    >_>, its just a modeling program, you dont need a stellar pc to make a movie like AC, they made it on normal pc's just like ours, its just the actual rendering of the CGI takes place at render farms, else it would take months for the movie to render ( maybe even years >_>).

and yes most likely maya was used, could've been XSI also though ( xsi cost 18k$ , so maya is cheap )

Dont think making a cgi movie is easy though :P

Actually it can :P, cause you cant just "try", you will have to learn a TON of stuff before even attempting cgi, first you'll ofcourse need to know the basics and tricks of the program itself, then you'll have to spend hours and hours, honing(sp?) your skills in making an organic model ( humans), THEN you'll have to learn animation, texturing...etc...

Then you'll need to be able to make a good High Res model ( high poly in industry terms ), then you'll need to learn the actual CGI rendering effects etc.. and then finally, you will be able to make a cgi movie :P.

Thats why people follow courses or go to school for it, and always work in teams.
Yes, you CAN try, but don't be suprised if it doesn't work out like you want it.

I don't expect to make AC quality movie in 5 hours, I know it'll take lots of time, but I dont have anyting better to do except learning (mostly computers) and video games.

I'm sure you can find other things to spend time on.

Don't be discouraging, guys. If Zibo wants to figure out the mathematics of lighting, texture, and moving an object in an xyz-space as opposed to good ol' Cartesian coordinates, let him do it and see what happens. Who knows, Zibo might pull off something like this:

Be sure to watch the animation. It's an awesome clip ^^
