No credit card? Wow, welcome to the year 2007 man. How do people still live without credit cards? My pet fish has one.Originally Posted by rockmanj

You can live without a credit card. It just don't do your credit rating any justice.
You could, but that's hardly living. How are you going to order stuff from newegg or tigerdirect? It's madness. Not like they're hard to get.

Rockmanj's in Korea. Don't know if Newegg and TigerDirect are really ... good options there .
Eww...Tigerdirect? My respect for you just went down 6 levels.Originally Posted by Animeniax

Actually I always looked down on people who ordered from tigerdirect, especially when they brag about some barebone PC they got for cheap from that site. But being at an APO where most companies won't ship to, you learn to rely on whoever you can to get what you need.Originally Posted by Board of Command

Alrighty, I have a question.
Me, I'm going to be buying a new computer within the month, but I'm just wondering about one thing: is Windows Vista worth getting or should I just stick with XP? I heard a lot of bad rep when it first came out, but after some time has passed, surely a lot of the bugs have been fixed now. Plus, the system requirements to use Vista shouldn't be a concern.
judgment call at this point. Some people who're using vista love it. Some people hate it. There's good arguments for either stance, and really no room for criticism of either choice at this point.
But there's still a lot of random bugs, and even more random annoyances in vista. If you're very comfortable with XP, vista's got a learning curve and some unexpected behaviors to watch out for.
Functionality wise, Vista is superior to XP in every aspect except copying files (which seems to take extra long for some reason). If you don't mind learning a slightly different version of Windows, I highly recommend you get Vista. There's a learning curve but cmon...Windows is Windows. How different can it be?
Learning curve, eh? Well, that's absolutely no problem for me. Vista it is! Thanks a lot!
Driver support, system requirements, legacy support for games....Originally Posted by Board of Command
Finally! I didn't know a help thread existed.
I need some help finding some links. Can anyone help me find some wealth time lines? I think Forbes might have all of them. There are a couple I can't find.
Bill Gates:This one is tricky because there are a couple of them. The one I was looking for though was flash based, and I think had a moving slide bar to show his movement and what he accomplished.
And the next one is a bar graph of the fastest net worth gains in recent history including the Google guys and Gates. Thats all I know.
Appreciate it thanks.
Driver support and system requirements are irrelevant if you're buying a new computer right now with modern hardware. Even if you have some old hardware, chances are that Vista comes bundled with the drivers provided the hardware isn't some obscure thing from Asia. I installed Vista on a friend's computer and it had working drivers for her ancient HP inkjet built in.Originally Posted by Y
As for games, nearly all games that worked on XP will work on Vista either natively or through some compatibility tweaking. And to be realistic, you're not buying a brand new computer to play ancient DOS games.
I've got a Vista and 4 xps at my place. I just find Vista annoying, that's all. Not that that means much. I don't like change, to be honest, and have no incentive to learn how to use Vista yet. Reading this thread for better opinions.
On a side note, has anyone here had experience with Nero Backitup 2.x? I couldn't be bothered deleting and re-copying my anime so just backed my comp up as it is. took something like 15 DVDs and 5 hrs on best compression. Took me two whole nights to figure out that if it doesn't burn succressfully on max speed too, so I've got a paper basket full of DVDs now, lol. Just wanted to see if anyone has succressfully burned and restored their hard drive with it. I didn't bother verifying, since the system files would have modified itself somewhat.
I guess it's a bit late to reply but....Originally Posted by Board of Command

Last time I tried XP64, I realized I couldn't play Starcraft anymore.
...utterly unacceptable
