    Kemonozume

This is the series I've been waiting for all summer, hopefully it won't dissapoint. Released by AfF-F and Yoroshiku:

Well I watched the first episode and I'd have to say I am thoroughly confused how I feel about this show. The art is fairly unique for an anime and the peoples' style reminds me of old rotoscoped Tarzan animations while other parts are pretty simple. It is hard to tell if they are going for that look or it is just really cheap animation. Yuka also annoys me to no end in the way she looks; I just couldn't stand seeing her. Anyway the art is the best part so far. The plot was simple when it was there at all. If I had not read the summary I would have had no clue what it was about. The most memorable thing beside the final scene is the freaking monkey. It really did not seem that interesting, hopefully the plot with take hold before I become tired of the animation. The show deserves a try though.

The series looks it's gonna follow the Romeo and Juliet story, but of course, with a different approach......an approach which might have some twists, or not, of its own along the way. This is an assumption based on the 1st episode and the series description; I mean, it might turn out to be a complete different thing later on. In all, the series looks promising and worth following or at least checking out.

PS: There is no “cheap” animation/artwork, it just look that way ‘cause that’s the way it was intended to look to begin with (stylish). Others might find it fresh, others might find it horrible…I, for my part, find it quite interesting and new (away for your regular basis anime series). The style quite reminds me to the animated movie Mind Games.

hm, this was one wierd episode.
The animation is odd to say the least - and the story seems to follow the same line as the animation.
This could be an excellent series, too hard to tell at this point I think though -- still in the 'what the hell just happened' stage of things...

    edit:
The monkey has to be the best character!

I just have to say .... WOW is that shit stylish! Or at least, stylized.

It sort of seems like the insane hyper-stylized artwork is going to end up being one of the bigger appeals to this series. I think it's refreshing ... definitely not more of the same.

At the same time, yeah, I could see it being a detractor too... depending on whether it appeals to you or not. I'm going to put this in the same school as Gokusen and Gankutsuou : it's in an unusual style, and maybe that's one of the big appeals of it, but it may not be the only one.

The monkey ... very, very awesome. Especially his halved-peach attack . I loved that.

The first episode definitely gave me a unique vibe: it feels like Samurai Jack meets Samurai Champloo.

Uh that's about all from me now. More comments later.

(Totally unrelated, but wow, I thought AF-F had all but died out from the fansubbing scene. Nice to see them back. ^^)

Yeesh, nobody's following this one, huh . Well, I wasn't really either, but there's been some movement lately!
Episode 3 (AF-F&YF) (6 days old as of now)
    Episode 4 (AF-F&YF) (Fresh!)

AF-F is also releasing h.264 HD versions of the episodes, check their scarywater page if you're interested in that.

And now that Shinsen's done with Blood+, apparently they've joined the game on this one too. I'm not the biggest fan of Shinsen for quality, but they've certainly been passable in the past, and they definitely smoke AF-F&YF on speed and regularity -- not to mention they're already an episode ahead .

    Episode 1 (Shinsen)
    Episode 2 (Shinsen)
    Episode 3 (Shinsen)
    Episode 4 (Shinsen)
    Episode 5 (Shinsen)

    Episode 5 (AF-F&Y-F)

Interesting what the stimulus of a competing group does to release times .

By the way, the HD-encodes are pretty damned gorgeous looking.

Not that I like promoting Shinsen releases... but it's indeed interesting to see the stimulus:

    Episode 8 (AF-F&Y-F) is out.

I wonder if this release schedule is just a fluke, or a sign of things to come <_<.

Ooh I've been watching this and it's amazing.

It's stylistic, violent, sexual, and superb. The characters are complex (I love complex characters and seeing them interact with each other) and the storyline definitely draws you in. The humor is surreal but then again the whole story and stylistic approach is surreal. This is a must see!

Just don't watch it in an airport! *cough*

Just watched some bits in youtube and that Ep08 intro, the kiss of Death, was a tad disturbing for my tastes.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.

Really? I thought that ep 8 intro was hilarious. It's what made me pick the anime up. XD The cold open intro scenes have nothing to do with the storyline (that I know of) but it is a little representative of the possible violence level in the series.
