i like how this new (hopefully last) filler arc is taking place in konoha village. seems like a great way to flow right into the manga-plot~

and the story actually seems a bit more "believable" than all the junk we've been seeing in the filler...

oh well, one can only hope that fillers are really ending soon (it's been over 60 epi of it)

I'm gonna have to call you out on this one, DarthEnder. Check back when they were fighting the Sound Five (or was it four?). Shikamaru has complete confidence in Chouji. I think he included him in the group because of his love of food, and that will somehow lead them to solve the mystery of the ramen and hidden blue prints.

Shikamaru has confidence in Chouji's strength. Not his intellegence. Especially in the filler, Shikamaru is definatly grouping him with Naruto in the detective department.

I'd say Shikamaru has confidence in Chouji's capabilities altogether. His best asset might not be a "detective" skill like Shino's bugs or Neji's byakugan, but he's still a valuable asset.

I think he's keeping Naruto in his group because he knew about the possible connection between Gennou and Naruto. So it's not necessarily a punishment, and it's not like Shikamaru is baby-sitting the two worst ninjas. They are there because he needs them there.

Check the animation in the preview, looks like some high quality stuff. Might spell the end of fillers!
