Can you post some screenshots? I decided not to upgrade until most of the bugs had been fixed. Is it drastically different from XP?
I played with it for a week and half. I didn't like it at first, but the more I played with it, the more I liked it. I installed both 32 and 64 bit versions. I think they are trying too hard to make windows easy to use for the biggest noobs, but in the end result, everything tends to feel cluttered and hard to navigate around. I like it though.
ok... from what i have read it is way more beautiful than xp... but i will stay with my windows XP pro, until microsoft stop doing update for it, and i give it less than 1 year until someone release a windowsXP theme of Vista lol
the start menu: click me!
the desktop: click meeee!
My computer : click and go!
config panel : click here
and a mode called "flip 3D" look bad but..: here
check your news site to see if there is something about the vista beta... me i went there, but it is in french.. so... if you cant read it, dont bother going there

Vista is a DRM filled piece of shit. I will never use it.
oh and.. i will also never use it for the reason Mage just said, and also because it take around 9gigs just for the installation...
Just realized the theme im using is taken from windows vista
Too bad you'll have to get Vista if you want to utilize DX10.
... So, as a person who plays a lot of games on my computer I am pretty much forced to get it.
/ No, you warrant no villain's exposition from me.
I don't know what DX10 is, so I won't be getting it.
R.I.P Captain America.
DX10 Is the new Directx if you want to play new games you'll be forced to get it
But didnt know it came exclusively for windows vista
Correction, if you want to play games that ONLY support directx10 ( like the halo2 port ), then you will need vista, otherwise you are fine with xp, crysis uses directx10, but fully supports directx9.0c too, and so will all games till like perhaps in 4 years from now.Originally Posted by Sandldan
And directx10 doesnt only require vista, it requires dx10 videocards too, those aren't even out yet.

some moron are realy going to buy Vista just to play Halo2 on they PC...
I just want a nice 64 bit OS
10/4/04 - 8/20/07
Anyone gotten their hands on the retail version of vista yet?
Going to buy a new computer in a near future and considering if it's worth updating to vista with that. To be able to get everything i can get out of crysis with directx 10 is what makes me want it the most.
Xp Vs. Vista, xp came out as the winner in most parts but you should take into consideration that the drivers and other things are still in need of updates for Vista

If i were you i would wait a bit before getting vista, give it some time for your favorite game/programs to update for vista compatibility.
Yes. 3 months ago. I still don't like it. XP all the way...for now.Originally Posted by Sandldan

Reasons not to upgrade: expensive, known bugs, driver issues, lack of compelling reasons to upgrade, pervasive drm, application support problems, draconian licensing ...
I've got a copy of vista business courtesy of my department, but it's apparently only good for one activation. Knowing that I tend to reinstall os'es about twice a year (because of random configuration changes and whatnot), I'm going to wait until I've got a newer system and service pack 1's out. Might snag a university copy of enterprise and give it a try at work though.
The stuff on PA just relates to everything doesn't it?
LaZie made this...a long time ago.

Vista is pretty much XP with marginal improvements. It looks better, but performance-wise it is NOT worth the upgrade (>$100 for non-students). Stick with XP unless you are absolutely forced into getting it.

Anyone can explain what in the world do you need 15+ gig for operating system? XP runs at about 4 gigs .
