Thread: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

If Takano was the one to die on the night of the festival, who went missing? Assuming Keichi is perfectly sane, it could only mean that the uncle was still barely alive when Keichi buried him, and he went missing due to the curse.

Another possibility is that Takano did see Keichi burying the corpse, and she went to dig it up later that night. The problem with this theory is that they found her body in the morning, so if she had the corpse, it should have been there with her.

In my opinion, the biggest question right now is who went missing?

You forget that certain tidbits from previous arcs trickle into the next. So it probably the same as the last two arcs - the cameraman and "Takano". I wonder if we'll get to find out why Takano made a fake burnt corpse?

Its hard to pin down whats being done by the town to perpetuate this "curse" and whats being done by something more supernatural. In this arc it seems like the supernatural is playing a more predominant role since Satoko's uncle is still alive. Another possibility is Satoko is delusional and everyone is doing a cover up before they punish Keiichi for immitating their demon gods.

That's a good point you bring up. Maybe Satoko is just a psycho because the girls are always crazy.

I feel sorry for Keichi's voice actor.

Okay, wow, what the hell was all that about? Was this whole thing just a dream while Keichi was unconscious? If so, what happened to the dead body in the river at the beginning of the arc? This doesn't make any sense.

The dead body was Keiichi from the previous arc. so... this makes it the only one where Keiichi survives... and he's the only one to have survived. but this whole arc was weird (also... when they said there was one survivor, i thought it was the uncle... again). Personally, this was my favourite, although there are so many unanswered questions. maybe its what makes it interesting. it leaves things to your imagination!

on another note... why do we never see K1's parents? I mean... we see other adults and its ONLY his parents (then again... what about the other kids parents???)... mnaybe its a parent conspiracy!

    Triad released Episode 08
I really like this series, can't give any good reason -- it's messed up, seems to be in 4-episode repeats (kinda of), and again messed up in general (yes it requires me mentioning messed up twice).

Looking forward to see the relevance between the differences, or if they're related/different angles.
    Well worth watching this series.

Anyone up to episode 15? I don't think its a spoiler to say that this arc has continuity with the previous one. but ... damn, this is a weird one. Not by itself, since anyone watching only this arc will think this is a pretty normal detective show, but after you've seen the others... this one is so weird. Next arc is called "detective story"... i'm quite interested to see what it will be about.

a cool link... The Real Hinamizawa.

the first ep of "Detective Story" makes me really want to go there! i wanna if everyone in that village is as crazy as they are in the show.

Edit: is anyone still watching this? you should... each arc is better than the previous one (maybe except the one with the policeman, but that's only two eps). At any rate... episode 19, in the detective story arc, is the one i've enjoyed the most. (by the way, the whole arc is about Shion... and she is... well watch it and then discuss!)

I find it difficult to watch the detective arc without having to constantly remind myself that Shion is a 5th grader...

man... just forget about that... they have the physique of 20 year olds... maybe they were just slow in school?

    This said...Episode 20!

I really really really like Shion.

EDIT: "Episode 2 9.33"!!! Now i get it!

Can you screenshot it for me? I don't keep my old episodes.

And this arc basically explains everything that has happened in all the other arcs with the exception of the very first one. That one was just flat out weird.

Its not a screenshot... its when Keiichi and the others are playing Clue... and the murder is Rika, and she kills them slow with poison. that was a simple bit of foreshadowing. I wonder if the first arc has a link...come to think of it... its the only one without continuity no?

I got confused there too. It's because you're back in the past again. This is another telling of the story. For now, don't expect things to make sense, just keep watching and it will all make sense by the end, I promise.

    It is explained much later.

Higurashi is divided into two types of stories. Question Arcs, and Answer Arcs. All but one of the many arcs in the first season are Question Arcs (won't tell you how many..or which one isn't, you will figure it out). The propose a scenario full of unexplained things and mysteries. You aren't supposed to have any idea what is going on.

Answer Arcs do one of two things. They either show the other side to the same story, or they are a "response" to one of the Question Arcs. Similar situation, but a lot more is explained, or some huge truth is revealed.

You won't have a much of a clue what the hell is going until the second season, though there are a ton of hints scattered throughout the first season.

i've just started watching this series, albeit it being a little too late after the series have ended long ago.

Apparently, correct me if i'm wrong, the flow of the plot is a little strange. I'm at the end of episode 8. It seems that the first 4 eps and the next 4 eps are like alternate retellings of the same/similar story.

So, to watch this show, i guess we can't expect it to flow like normal anime of other series where one ep should lead to the next, but to expect this to be like a block of arcs of alternate retellings?

There are only two arcs that tell the story in a different perspective (which is the same arc and you'll realize it when you reach it), but every other arc start off as fresh and anew, with only certain elements carried over. After you're done with this series, go ahead and jump to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei (don't mind the poor activities).
I am training in the shadows.
Currently playing: All of your games, probably.
